I hope the planet explodes in a fiery mess of burning flesh.

Hey everybody! Remember what happened last time America tried to eliminate an international boogyman?

Boy, that shit was fun huh?

the issue we hit apon is that the Famicom (or real carts) seems to behave differently than the NES (or powerpack) on initialisation which was causing random startup probs.

Does this apply for NTRQ as well?

Psssh. Last years Blip prevented the return of Jesus, killed Macho Man *and* had a 10k performance.

You've got some pretty big shoes to fill 2012 lineup.

Ok! So I tried the 27c020 and I'm getting the same silent boot screen and pattern freeze as before. I even tried a second NES Open cart and a second NES. No luck.

Any suggestions? This doesn't seem to want to work.

hey RG - try using 27c020 or 27c040 eproms and doubling up or quadding up the PRG rom data for the prg rom with the following commands on your commandline:
copy /b ntrq_ntsc.prg+ntrq_ntsc.prg ntrq256.prg ^ gives u a 256kb image for 27c020 or for a 27c040 eprom:
copy /b ntrq256.prg+ntrq256.prg ntrq512.prg Hope that helps! (it could be to do with higher address lines and possibly some nes board layouts being funny about small 128k eproms, I saw this behaviour once before when I was putting my first NTRQ cart together...) Can you let me know if that cures the issue? Cheers! \o_
PS as long as you use the ucon64 command -s and take the .prg file it spits out you are okay re; ines headers etc...

It should also be noted that Amigacore ignores anything mentioned in this thread.

Assuming you want to go down that long and disturbing road that is.

This thread is perfect and may now be closed.

I just reread my post, I apologize if I sounded brick about it!

Certainly, thank you for the help both of you. I'll get on this asap.

Shit. I only used the 27c010 because the tutorial said I should.

So, find and use 27c020 chips then? Should the tutorial should be updated with this info?

@Analog What eprom was used for your cart? What is the board layout?

Hey dudes! It looks like there's trouble in paradise. This is only half working for me and the only person I know who could help me is currently out of town. Perhaps someone here could assist?

I managed to get NTRQ "running" on the NES using an NES Open golf cart I had laying around. Why in quotes? Because there is no audio, the pattern editor is filled with random values and when I go to change a note the screen goes black and freezes - except for the current note and NTRQ logo in the corner. I am using the latest version.

I used ucon64 to strip the ines header (and double-checked in a hex editor). Although, even if something was wrong at this step I wouldn't know what to look for. All I know is that the header is removed. I triple-checked the settings for the GQ-4X to make sure they were set correctly. I quadruple-checked my soldering job and wiring. I burned three different 27c010 eproms to make sure it wasn't a faulty eprom. Hell, I even removed the solder and soldered a second time to make sure that wasn't the issue. Boy was that a pain in the prostate.

Are there any suggestions as to why this would only half work? The NES works fine, my hack-job unfortunately does not.

Should the Ascii display for the hex editor have any special message ie "Written by Wow Man" or should it just be a bunch of random characters? Like I said, I have no idea wha I'm looking for here.

Witchcraft! Thanks!

Just so I'm clear, only the PRG needs to be removed/replaced? What about CHR? I was always under the impression CHR contained the necessary graphical elements.

FUCK.

FUCK. FUCK. FUCK.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

FUCK. GODDAMMIT. FUCK.

Funny you dudes should mention this. We recently unearthed a cassette of a certain someone doing this exact thing. The tape was recorded around 95-96 and used the dezaemon cart for famicom.

More info soon.
