I didn't read your post, but wanted to share this.
There is a full article on an atariST setup in the latest issue of "sound on sound" magazine.

Yup. Lower the volume for your other channels. Also, which CPU does your boy have?

I can make a better machine with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and I can easily fit it inside any enclosure.

Me too

THe GBC would help, yes. You could also try splitting your sounds to different files and recording one at a time. For example, recording PU1, then PU2, then WAV, etc.

The internal clipping diodes are only present for worst case scenarios and some vintage synths with a sync output may run on bipolar voltages up to +/- 15v! Anyone using this method of sync should research their hardware before doing so I think.

Sounds awesome. What's the diff between analog sync and the other kind of sync?

The difference is between digital and analog. tongue
But really it's just another way to connectthe gameboy to more hardware. I this case we've gone back to an older method of sync. So it will be useful ii f you have older gear.

The problem is that the wires required actually go under the LCD itself. Replacing the ribbon is not really plausible and doing it with individual wires would be crazy hard.

I suggest just keeping it as is and waiting for a replacement option. The CPU is most valuable thing inside. Keep it for later.

Damn that's easy.

Yes I've seen those cards. I'm not interested in buying them. And I'm pretty sure about home made cards being waaay cheaper than any GB flashcart product. Depends a whole lot on the purpose what you want to use them for. LSDJ is not that much important to me. I'm a bit more into homebrew games.

Hand wiring smt ICs is only for the self-loathing. Trust me, I've done dozens.
Not only will you invest days and weeks into learning about rom/ram, memory mapping and bank switching but you'll need to buy rom chips, and an eprom programmer.

Rom chips with the capacity you need for a typical pokemon hack is going to be difficult to find and expensive becusse they are old and out of production. Newer chips with the capacity you'll want are going to be too small to wire pin for pin by hand.  It's not worth it, at least not for gameboy.

How about these? ~.75 cents each shipped.

Better, yes. Still would require hand trimming but at that price, I cannot complain.

...

I actually found some others which will require no cutting.

Cheaper too. I should check ebay more often I suppose.  Thanks.

The link for that header seems to be no longer good, but I have found a few headers on mouser that may or may not work as well.

The headers could be cheaper...

I also cam across a few schemats that will come in handy.

EDIT: Nevermind. The connectors may not have enough pins...

EDIT again:
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/3M- … N6hqoWM%3d

This connector seems ideal. Through hole, 2mm, 60 pins (2x30), no extra plastic requiring any hand-finishing. Still almost $5 each though...

I know this is a bit off-topic, but I hope someone ports virtual boy games to the oculus rift and etc

That would be sweet. The emulator could be modified for visual filters like softer colors or textures.

Man, if i owned a virtual boy I would def make a flash cart for it. Honestly though, they are just too uncommon...

Edit:

I have to retract my interest. It seems that the cart's have a custom connector that can only be salvaged from existing carts . too bad too considering all of those channels.

How is your cf formatted?
