i'll test today, and i can do the bulk order right away if it works out well

i don't see any reason for it not to work well, but just want to be absolutely sure

will also try to get the dev on here so he can tell you all about it more, himself wink

do you think that you could daisy chain these? cos me and dado11 are tinking of doing that.

And what do you expect to get out of it?

Such a legit video. big_smile

I have two for sale in the trade sub forum, but they don't meet your exact criteria.
I would take OBO if you end up being interested.

heh.

That is correct. I would have replied earlier but was at work.

Seriously though. So with a third post: kudos to you for bringing that up.

Like, freaking revolutionary to say the least. Haha

smile seems really nice, and really straight-forward to me - the data is just 'there' in the shared RAM for you to read, being constantly updated by the GameBoy, without you having to make any effort at all! No crazy timing to try and match, no counting cycles, you would just read the data and assemble the frames...

For certain games you would even be able to mess around with constructing and viewing the entire 256x256 frame, instead of just a scrolling 160x144 window into it!

In fact, you could also experiment with writing into the shared RAM instead of just reading from it! smile

NICE IDEA on the 256 x 256 frame! That could possibly make a world of difference with custom software's!

Actually, scratch that - just use a dual-port SRAM like this:

http://www.idt.com/products/memory-logi … l-port-ram

and there won't be any conflicts for the GameBoy and the Arduino to share the same memory!

Then just take the video generation routine of a GameBoy emulator and instead of having it generate video from a software emulation of the 'Boy, feed the real GameBoy's memory contents into and let it generate easily recordable video for you - voilà! big_smile

Sounds legit, but also sounds like the most complex of ways to do this...hah...

This is an interesting idea.  The question is can we read the VRAM fast enough?

An Arduino Mega can directly address external SRAM as if it were internal:

http://web.archive.org/web/201204190428 … garam.html

looks like some work has been done on Teensy support as well:

http://github.com/xxxajk/xmem2

the question would be if it could be timed not to conflict with the GameBoy's access to VRAM - or maybe a second SRAM chip could some how be piggy-backed to receive the same data from the GameBoy but allow reading by the Arduino without timing concerns...

Or replacing the VRAM with the teensy and having the Teensy mimic it with interrupts linked to VRAM reads/writes from the CPU.

Nope. You'll either need to find someone who has it or open it up to look at the voltage regulator and find the specs of that.
I did read that it will run on the GBA's batteries when you install it directly. Does it not have a battery compartment of its own? I also saw that it can be modded to have RGB output which looks CRISP!

I would really love to get my hands on one to find out how it works.

I just moved to the Detroit area and am damn happy that I did so. My previous homes were in terrible locations, but Detroit has a handful of active members with excellent music! Just this past weekend I met, BBQ, Snesei, the one electronic, and both members of dream fox! I didn't get a chance to speak with Boaconstructor because we got lost before the show, but maybe sometime soon. tongue

Yay Detroit!
