Lets clear some things up. There are many revisions of the Gameboy's z80 CPU, DMG, MGB, SGB, etc. The point of this thread is not to make claims of which sounds the best and which can or cannot play back the best samples; that is for another time. The point of this thread is to categorize information about the CPU's themselves. Manufacturing data, revisions, etc and to set up a basic time frame of when each individual CPU was produced and to what degree each revision was made.

I am going to rely on the input of all of you here. I need for you to probe inside of your gameboys, gameboy pockets and maybe even super gameboys and jot down the text inside.

If you have an Original gameboy, DMG-01:

  • The Letter after "DMG-CPU"

  • The revision of the CPU printed at the bottom of the back PCB

  • The Region where it was manufactured, Usually if not always Japan

  • The Time stamp and Letter

If you have a Super Gameboy, SGB-01:

  • The CPU number after "SGB-CPU"

  • The Region manufactured, usually Japan

  • The Timestamp, the last line on the CPU itself

If you have a gameboy pocket, MGB-01:

  • CPU revision, printed on the back-center of the board by the manufacturing date

  • Region manufactured, usually Japan

  • Timestamp at the bottom of the CPU itself

DMG-CPU Table

Letter - Rev - Region- Timestamp - Contributor

B - 4 - Japan - 9034 S - Jazzmarazz
B - 4 - Japan - 9027 W - Jazzmarazz
B - ? - Japan - 9124 W - Jazzmarazz
B - 6 - Japan - 9311 D - Jazzmarazz
B - 6 - Japan - 9312 D - Jazzmarazz
C - 6 - Japan - 9605 D - Jazzmarazz

SGB-CPU Table

Number - Region - Timestamp - Contributor

01 - Japan - 9423 3 D - Jazzmarazz
01 - Japan - 9430 5 D - Jazzmarazz

MGB-CPU Table

Rev - Region - Timestamp - Contributor

LCPU 01 - Japan - 9727 D - Jazzmarazz
LCPU 02 - Japan - 9812 D - Jazzmarazz
LCPU 02 - Japan - 9809 D - Jazzmarazz

If you have any suggestions for the tables, please let me know your thoughts. I have more to check on myself...

Bumping this thread to say that I will be toying with littlescales SMSM program. I hope to write own music maker but for the time being, I will be modifying my board design to accommodate an FPGA over the footprint of he mapper chip for future use and sometime hopefully adding a battery and ram. I do not own a battery backed cart to base it in though.

It was the resistor. For now it's connected without a resistor so I'll have to get one here soon. It turned out good!

Hahah....47k.:P

You write an application to run natively on the GG and I will produce them with you. Heh...

I noticed CPU version one is missing from the list. I have a PCB here that was previously marked bad due to the playback issue.

Pics or it didn't happen. Lol

I have not seen a cpu01 before.

The was another topic awhile ago, but I think the outcome was poor. The seller just stole other peoples photos and who knows what they were even selling...

Is here a bulk discount? Maybe some people would do a group purchase.

Make moar furious bees!

Yeah, the adapter is neat. I wish I had bought a second one to attempt flashing other rooms to it. I haven't checked the data sheet just yet.
