I was just thinking about leaving it where there was sun, otherwise using a UV lamp to charge it.

kitsch:
Did you take any pictures of it in action?

Thanks smile

Is there a technical reason why this wouldn't work?
If it would work it'd produce a light that's energy free and easy on the eyes.

I figured I'd ask about the technicalities before looking for a gb pocket to mangle only to find out there's something fundamentally wrong with the idea.

I've just found that the el-cheapo tri-wing screwdriver I bought was made cheaply and is starting to mess with the screws as it wears out.
If you find replacement screws and a decent quality screwdriver that won't flake apart please post it.

The can was getting empty so it's possible, and the power button is a bit finnicky so it's possible that it's the reason why.
The screwdriver was bought from ebay and while it worked the metal is a bit weak and flakey.

I did use compressed air but there was some stuff still stuck until, ironically, I used the cotton swab to swipe away.
o_o

The only thing worrying me is the cheap quality screwdriver, I have to open the case again because it's not closed 100% properly and I'm terrified of rounding the screws.
Has anyone replaced them completely?

When I get more adventurous there is a bit more residue that could be cleaned off.
The problem with alcohol is that it left behind a kind of film while still not taking everything off.

If you wear nail polish it will come off during this so I'd go in with clean nails next time.

Got it!
Thank you so much!

Oh.....
The directions didn't mention that the polarizer goes UNDER the display...

Of course common sense isn't my strongpoint.
The only issue now is that the colours are inverted, is that normal?

This was my first time, and I think I got everything.
Lemme fish it out of the garbage and take a pic, watch for edit. smile

I had trouble getting the back layers off and had to scrub some residue off, but I followed all the directions I found here:
http://asmretro.com/density-backlight-tutorial

I don't see any horizontal or vertical lines though so in theory the ribbon cables should be in tact right?
sad

So I bought the backlight kit from asmretro and it's running fine except I can't really see anything.
I can faintly see where the nintendo logo would be if there was no cartridge installed and even then it's only visible with the contrast right in the middle.

I'm not sure if it's damage to the LCD because there is an image there, it's just incredibly faint.

Piccy: Tetris is being displayed, it's just too faint to register.

What about the power LED?
Can you just drop a green one in place of the red one?

Damn, maybe I'll just keep the pocket as is and sniff out a DMG then.
My hands are useless at being still so I'd have like a 90% chance of ruining it further. tongue

Thanks all.

Shit sad
So I guess it's not worth attempting to backlight it then?

I've read that there is a high rate of failure attempting it.
o_O

Hi!
You guys know way more about this stuff than I do and a Google search didn't come up with anything related to this.

A faint repeating pattern can be seen by the menu border going all the way down the screen.
It's faintly visible between the 2 blue lines I added, the contrast is at that setting to demonstrate the problem.

With some contrast fiddling it can range between slightly annoying and not really visible, but since I want to backlight this pocket I was worried about it either being more visible or just getting worse.
What could be going on here and is it fixable?

Thanks.
