I've noticed some strange behaviour when adjusting the pattern length on NL for Android. It's fine if I change it to 8 or 4 steps, but with other numbers it can't seem to join the loops properly. For example, if I have 10 steps in patterns 1-4 and try to loop them, it plays some of the patterns twice and some of them once, seemingly randomly.

This basically means no odd time signatures are possible, as far as I can tell. Any chance you could look into this if you're reading this, Oliver? I can see how it might get tricky if another instrument has a conflicting length. One possibility I can think of is to have a "base number of steps" option for new projects, and to keep it fixed throughout a project.

Thanks everyone for yr offers and advice. I've got a swap sorted now. smile

I have a Nanoloop 2.6 cart, and I'd like to swap it for whatever I need to run LSDJ on a DS Lite. I know very little about Gameboys in general and just want to do a little light chiptune for a hobby. It seems there's some politics involved in my simple request which I don't understand, and also a few technical details, like I need to have some chip that runs some emulator or somesuch.... I'd like to bypass all that and just keep it light and fun! (I asked the keeper of a local store if he had LSDJ for sale and he responded like I'd asked for drugs or something!)

If anyone considers this a fair swap and can give me what I want, then please get in touch. I live in the UK.

Regards,

Robin.

Sorry to be so blonde, but cold someone provide the name of/a link to buy a cart that I can use to put gameyob on, and also a reliable place to download it from?

Aargh. Feeling overwhelmed again.

Flash carts, micro sd cards, emulators etc. I'm not attached to using lsdj, it's just that much as I love nanoloop, I want to be able to write long melodies without having to break them up into tiny pieces.

Is there an official ds tracker I can buy, or do I have to learn about and choose all sorts of hard/soft/firm ware to enjoy handheld Chiptune composition without buying yet another type of gameboy?

If not, then am I right in thinking I need a ds flash cart and something called a micro ad card to make this happen? Anyone selling what I need?

Hi folks,

I'm wondering what's the best way to get LSDJ onto my DS Lite.

I'm not too worried about the fact that it's not the original platform - I just want to keep things as simple as possible with hardware etc.

Someone mentioned something called "Lameboy" - I think it's some kind of emulator. My question is, what do I need to buy/do to make this work?

Once I know what I need I'll probably post on the WTB.

Looking forward to exploring LSDJ (even if it's emulated).

R.

OK, I now have a Nanoloop adapter (many thanks Simon!) and I need to make a decision: buy a GBA with link cable, or try to find a suitable cable to use with my GB micro.

I'd rather just get the one cable, but what exactly is it I need? I'm guessing something like "male micro" at one end with "female GBA" at the other. Does such a thing exist, and am I likely to find it on ebay? Or is it going to be easier to go with the GBA and GBA link cable option (apparently the official cable is no good....)

Any further help appreciated and thank you for your patience.

R

It's happened a couple of times: For some reason, a song pattern gets overwritten with the song pattern from another bank. Thankfully the bank itself remains intact. I'm pretty sure both times this happened, I had just given a bank a name, and it was the song of that bank which got changed.

Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to avoid it?

I'm guessing naming a bank before making a song, and then not changing it may avoid this. And, of course, backup, which I'm working on...

I will post in music section in future...

Hmm, there's already a Chipmonk. Darn! I'll have to have a rethink.

I agree the chords on this track are somewhat repetitive. Another rethink, I think.

Thanks for words of encouragement.

Hi folks,

I've just uploaded my 2nd chiptune, with a new Soundcloud Account:

https://soundcloud.com/chipmonk-2/peak-to-peak

I'd like to change my name here, but think I'll need to make a new account.

Love to hear your impressions.

Chipmonk! (Formerly Robin).

The Nanoloop site says "Out of Stock." Does anyone have one for sale?

Robin.

So using audio is a possibility? Has anyone actually done this with Nanoloop 2.6?

I can't believe how hard this is turning out to be. Maybe I'll just have to risk buying a GBA and link cable and Nanoloop cable. What a faff!

Sorry to ask again, but I'm still stuck and feeling frustrated because I really want to backup my Nanoloop Compositions and don't know enough about the hardware to know how to do it.

I have a DS Lite and a Gameboy Micro, and recently sold my GBA 'cos I thought I didn't need it.

I also have an "old syle" Nanoloop Cart (2.6), which looks different to the pictures on the Nanoloop site (no exposed circuitry).

From what I can gather, the DS Lite can't do the job (or it's illegal!?), and I need to buy another GBA along with a link cable and nanoloop lead as well. This is quite a hassle for someone who just wants to do a little light chiptune composition for relaxation, but keep my work safe in case I lose the cart or it malfunctions (or even gets full).

I'm willing to do it, but I'd like to know that it will work before making all 3 orders. From what I've read it should work, my only concern being, does the Nanoloop lead work with the "traditional" style Nanoloop Cart that I have?

I'm wondering, has anyone here successfully managed to do what I'm trying to do, and can you advise on the best way to do it?

Thanks in advance,

Robin.

Looks like I need to sort out my recording setup...

Thanks for your feedback. Sketchman3, I'm curious to know how you would suggest "transitioning" between sections. Would you say it's best to "drop back" some of the parts before a new section, or build intensity up to the change, or something else? I may get round to making chiptune versions of my "grockle stomps" as a near-future project.

Aaroneow, I actually know quite a lot of music theory already, which is good in some ways, but does mean that Nanoloop will never be the "blank slate" that it could be for someone who doesn't know any.

This piece is based very loosely on an Indian Rag called "Marwa" whose basic scale has a minor second, a major third, a sharp fourth, no fifth, and major 6th and 7ths degrees.

It's probably the minor 2nd and sharp 4ths that account for most of the strangeness of the soundworld. We don't often hear these intervals in western music, but I love exploring the exotic possibilities beyond the more common Major and minor tonalities we're used to.

Hi folks,

With a little help from you guys, I've put together my first complete chiptune track, and I though I'd share it here.

It's at:

https://soundcloud.com/robin73-1/mechan … m-01101111

(looks like I'm not yet allowed to post proper links, so you'll have to copy the above into the address bar to hear it.)

I'd be intrigued to hear what people here make of it....

Regards,

Robin (who probably ought to get a slightly more funky username...).

Ok rygD, thanks for the input.
