wow dude thats awesome. im in nyc (gxscchater) but no where near Colorado at that time (i even have jury dury in august yuck) maybe will cross paths some day.

Hello guys, long time lurker here! Some of you know me buy my artist name GXSCChater, I been using famitracker and a lot of DS, 3ds music software, for the last 7 years ive been using the DS-10 Engine that is used in the DS-10, DSN-12, and iDS-10.

Ive created a lot of music and unique sounds for hip hop, synthwave, jazz and electronic music with saxaphones, electric guitars, and drums but people know me more for pushing the engine to make chiptune music such as nes, gameboy, TG-16/Pc Engine, SID, Fm sounds for Sega Genesis and Arcade music (even CPS2!), Master System squarewaves and much more.

So this week after a year of empty promises, difficulty and shyness, I finally was able to produce some videos which ill be posted from now on every week. So far I have 5 videos cover the SYNTH SCREEN, and 1 long video covering the PATCH SCREEN, this is more than enough for you guys to understand how each knob and switch effects your sound! Enjoy!

Over the future I will post how I created styles of music, especially chiptune, if you want to hear a lot of examples, visit my soundcloud or youtube. If you have any questions feel free to ask below and on any youtube video if you have a certain question of something that you may not understand. I tried my best to explain the way how the engine works.

Ahhh awesome stuff! i would love to jump on this!

I started working in pico 8 a month ago, teach me every thing about coding! The music space is severly limited so i had to reuse drum loops to save space as 4 channel music can take up a lot of patterns, i also use 3rd 5th 7th chords or delays on the first channel so if a soundeffect cuts it off the music would not sound to interuppted.

If you want to hear some of my pico 8 music ports from my group projects with delfemask, send me a message! I would live to help you out since i can work around pico 8 limatations!

Im drexegar but my music name is gxscchater

Hey all!

On the NDS I really liked KORG DS10, and M01 was rather cool too.

Now on 3DS there seems to be 3 alternatives:

KORG DSN12
KORG M01D
Rytmik Ultimate

I tried both KORGs. But I thought they were only minor upgrades against the DS versions..

So I was wondering if anyone has tried Rytmik Ultimate? It seems like a very nice portable studio. Is it good? Can I do nice chiptunes on it? All comments are welcome smile

KORG DSN-12 was not a minor upgrade, everything from storage in banks, patterns, files and sounds were quadrupled along with 3 FX channels.
KORG M01D is minor but had some very needed upgrades to interface and storage and 24 channels instead of 12, but the original version was only in japan.

As for RYTMIK ULTIMATE its great for people who can't handle DS-10 synthesizers, and people who are tired of the limitations the M01D has (missing porta slide and vibrato options). Also two ways you can make chiptune is by using the retrobits library with some nicely pick sounds, or using the DR.SYNTH wave synthesizer which can emulate nes, gameboy, game gear, sega master, TG-16, Virtual boy and SID music nicely if used properly.

Rythym Core Alpha 2 is pretty good too, but its interface takes a while to learn.

- the oscilloscope is most likely just for show but it's one of the coolest 3d gimmicks i've seen.  very few 3DS games allow such direct control over what's happening on the screen.  and like Xurlik said, hopefully this opens the door for more possibilities with visuals.

I build my sounds visually first instead of by ear to have a quick idea what direction I need to match sounds, this will help me match sound better with the oscilloscope in wave mode.

It was great to meet you in person decktonic, I actually started dancing when you played your tracks, the compositions was great!

And because of this very post you made here at chipmusic.org. I got to be a part open mic and perform my music for the first time, I have you to thank you for that!

Hope to see ya at PULSEWAVE in May or any chiptune place that's not to far from new jersey or NYC.

What I really appreciate about Korg M01D is that the interface that is used on the touch screen is very useable with the 3DS/2DS screens. I have Rhythm Core Alpha 2 and the interface is really small on the standard size touch screen and should really be used on the 3DS XL.

Yeah I had rythym core alpha 1 and yeah those buttons were tiny even for a DSI with the little bigger screen. I don't mess with too many DS music programs anymore, even though I have a whole bunch of them, but I just threw down almost 40 bucks on Korg M01D.

May I ask how is rythym core alpha 2 compared to part 1?

If anybody is interested, I purchased the KorgM1D and made an info sheet on what I found and tried to see if the app was compatible with the other KorgM1.

I posted the information here: http://www.ds10forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1925

So its pretty great and worth the money.

I thought I saw some patch examples of basic FM over at the DS-10 forum. You might want to head over there and check it out.

I post there all the time, but I haven't seen any FM patches or techniques there, but some people have done it in the past, but did not share, Probably because they stumbled on to it and didn't realize it, or there selfish lol. Along with my nes/gameboy tutorial, I'll be posting a tutorial on genesis music once I get some good sound out of it.

If your interested I have two works of genesis stuff on top of my soundcloud page here: https://soundcloud.com/gxscchater

It could also be a 3DS version of "iYM2151"

I've been very jealous of the iYM2151, but after fooling around with the PWM of the Osc2 of the korg DS-10, you can make 1 operator or  limited 2 operator FM sounds just like the iYM2151 on the Korg ds-10, I put up my first genesis test on my soundcloud (gxscchater), and working on a another detail genesis style track from the Korg Ds-10 plus.

Korg M01d comes out tommorow for both europe and americas!
