I didn't choose it. One of the guys where I work pronounced my login as if it was a word and I discovered it really is a word.

That is really cool man haha, you could sample someone saying the definition as your intro song to a gig or something - like "chunter, verb, to talk or grumble monotonously..." ||: doop wub doop wub doop wub doop wub doop wub doop wub doop wub doop doop doop : ||

Mine's my general gaming name. though I thought about it in relation to my musical life (i also play the violin and banjo, and love to shift between genres) and it seemed fitting smile
Plus lotr is awesome and gandalf's the coolest character (apart from legolas), and I think it would be awesome to dress up as a wizard and play chiptune tongue

please forgive my ignorance, but why do you need a sound card? For live use?

Hey guys, I was just looking at the tutorials index and the thread was closed, so I couldn't post what I wanted to ask there. Basically, it didn't look like it had much there, and/or hadn't been updated in a while, and the topics in the 'tutorials, mods and how-tos' heading looked just a little scrunched together. I'm not trying to devalue this forum in any way. I love this place. You guys have helped me out on more than one occasion and I haven't found a nicer community anywhere else.  I guess what I'm saying is more of a request, that the section just be categorized a little better, and maybe if we all work together to update the index that would be great (especially for a newb like me) I found an awesome set of tutorials on youtube and would have loved to see more like those here is all.

I mean, I might not understand the process fully, so if anyone has any insight please tell me.

thanks!

Nice! I just started watching that show last night, funny stuff.

thanks for the tips guys smile I thought the batteries that I had already in them were OK.. but as it turns out that was the issue. As soon as I replaced them with a brand new set, it works! Which is weird, but I guess they weren't the best quality batteries in the first place.
I don't have any game cartridges to test with so that was off the cards.. but thanks anyway!

Hey guys, just got a second hand DMG in the mail today but when I inserted my cartridge with LSDJ on it, the rom wouldn't load. Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this before? Like, the nintendo logo rolls down and plays the start up music, then it seems to reset, a line goes across the screen and nothing..
Does anyone know any fixes?
thanks smile

I havent posted here in a little while, but I was browsing thingiverse- a website made for sharing models for 3D printing, laser cutting, etc, and happened upon this: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:382485
Basically, you 3D print the case, install a raspberry pi, screen, battery, and SNES buttons, and you have an emulation handheld. Knew it wouldn't be long until it got discovered over here, so decided to post it. I'll be printing one ASAP, that's for sure.

Has anybody made one of these? Looks like a fun little project. Would be interesting if Retropie worked with this set up!

Agreed smile

Would LSDJ work with this? And could you just use a spare DMG case instead of 3D printing one?

What do you guys reckon? It uses rasberry pi which seems pretty cool. How effective would it be for LSDJ though? And could you just use an actual DMG case instead of 3D printing one?

Here's the link https://learn.adafruit.com/pigrrl-raspberry-pi-gameboy

hey thanks smile although the 'about' section in that wasn't very detailed, and i'm notoriously slow on figuring things out - but from what I think i understand is it basically the way to convert your song from lsdj into midi data?

it's a device for syncing between for example your lsdj to a drumcomputer.
or sending midi notes to lsdj or mgb.
or sending midi notes from lsdj to a synth.

converting your whole lsdj song into midi would be a bit hard tho...

oh ok, thanks!
And sorry for the thread jacking.

hey guys, also a newb, just wondering what Arduino boy is used for? Is it kind of like a port to plug dmg's + midi instruments into, to go specifically to a DAW or something like that?

Thanks heaps guys, sorry it's taken me a while to get back to this thread. internet issues.. anyway:
Sesska, haha yeah i suppose it is, i just have poor eyesight and staring at that small screen gives me killer headaches! Give me a nice big computer screen anyday smile to track on anyway, I still love modding DMG's!
Yes regarding the touch screen issue on smart phones/iphones, that does sound tricky, but yeah the first thing I was gonna ask as well was whether there was an external controller option - so thanks egr, know any good bluetooth gamepads? I also found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIPLcj3y7gA
Also thanks for the app options guys smile
defiantsystems - damn that's a thing? I would've thought the data would transfer seamlessly.. so if you want to use your dmg live you pretty much have to compose on it, not your computer, for complex songs?

Thanks man! That's exciting - game boy screens are so small!

And also, can you put LSDJ on a tablet (in my case android, google nexus 7) through usb onto a gameboy emulator app?

probably, but i dunno if any of the emulations for android are good

I might have to scope this out and get back to y'all about it.. I haven't really tried any of them out tbh. If anyone has, recommendations are more than welcome. Also though, would you happen to know whether any iphone/ipod apps are any good?

Hey guys, I was just wondering whether it was possible to write tunes on LSDJ on pc (through a gameboy emulator) and then transfer that tune onto a DMG?
