AAMSX, in collaboration with culturachip, has started a music contest focused on the AY soundchip, available in several 8 bit computers like spectrum128, amstrad, apple ][ and, of course, the MSX computers.
The contest is open to any 8bit platform (*only 8bit platforms, AtariST or other 16bit platforms are not allowed*) , tool or format*, with the restriction that only one single AY chip can be used.*
The rules for the compo:
-Any AY format but we recommend using .pt3 files (vortex tracker II or protracker 3) because is easily playable by a lot of 8bit computers like msx, amstrad or spectrum.
- There are no limits on the number of songs presented by a single contestant.
- Songs must be new and composed for the compo.
- Only original songs: no covers allowed.
- Deadline: 21th november
-Deadline to vote: 28 november
-All contestant must vote to enter the compo, if no vote is recorded they will still appear in the musicdisck and the audioCD but in last position
The final results will be announced during the next MSX users meetings in Barcelona, next 5th December.

Also after the compo:
- A musicdisk for several platforms with the songs of the contest. Availables platforms will depend if there is someone interested on creating it.
The AAMSX will create the music disk for MSX computers, including on it all the songs with formats playable from msx. If there is a song in a format that hasn't a replayer available for msx, the song wont be included on the msx musicdisk. Also, the AAMSX will prepare a little release of real musicdisk to be used on real msx computers, and these disk will be distributed on the next users meeting.
- AudioCD DIY, with a cover art and a ISO file, so everybody can create its onw copy of the disk: it will be published under license CC-BY-NC-SA, and all the contestants will have the sellig right so they can refund production costs of the cd and some income to promote the music
|To participate send:
-Music source
-mp3 render
|-500 char text for the music disck scroller
-Send to: rolemusic [circle] gmail [period] com

what do you call to sound garbage?

may be a problem on available memory?

I can say they sound all great on my PC (i cant talk about other platforms) where I had used soundfonts above 200mb

I had had some problems with multi layered but nothing I cant solve with Polyphone soundfont editor in specific ones

Another thing to take in count is to use some like volm0400 to fade note to avoid zero crossing, but that is the same with samples

if you want to control the AY chip you can also get vortex tracker II (windows clone of protracker), or if you want to control the beeper check beepola

for the real speccy thing check this big list of software http://www.zxsystems.ru/06_music.html  , I think protracker and sound tracker may be the ones more frequently used by musicians from that list, but Im not sure if you can load them on tape but with the TR-DOS disck system, but I will sugest dont rely on tape, you will get a hell of a nightmare trying to save your songs (but is perfectly safe to load stuff by tape using o.t.l.a https://code.google.com/p/otla/ )

I use this overused pop structure at times when i have some things already composed but I still lacks suff or ideas to complete a whole song
(intro)->verse->pre chorus->chorus->verse->pre chorus->chorus->chorus2->(solo)->prechorus->chorus->chorus2

allways multiples of 4 bars

the biggest changes are on pre chorus that have some small harmony change and builds up some tension to solve into to the chorus, and the chorus2 wich is a diferent melody in the same key but with different harmony

as said, an instrument for every setting is the key

I remember I get anoyed with the clicks when I started to use gameboy, basically clicks appears when you change the settings of a note, be it the volume envelope (custom or kill), the paning or the wave shape, fortunately you can do pitch changes smile, and is one of the reasons I consider the gameboy "musically"  less expressive than other chips when you need to control volume in any way you like (there ar hacks although), well stiill anoys me that I cant do custom envelopes and smooth sounds with modulation in wav chanel without those clicks everytime the wave changes, but all platforms has their own flaws

I think the goal of ubuntu is then and now to be both easy and transparent, and by transparent I mean that the casual user and dayly use of people who dont know about computer stuff user dont need to care about their computer being in some architecture or what kind of hardware they have, and well, the fact that the build essentials and compilers dont come by default and instead they have a pretty app installer is a clue about their goals witch are loable, many people can use linux full time withouth knowin what is the terminal but yes at some point an operator may had to install and set up some things on console....

and i agree on people who doesnt even read a readme smile

btw sorry for the off topic SESSKA

I have to ask, if you can't execute a make script and make sure the dependencies are fulfilled, why are you using linux?

well, isnt the goal of Ubuntu alike distros be transparent to any kind of user ?

(20 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)

well that depends on what you call, "already done",I use that one in ubuntu as well as fedora and in both work flawless smile , and more fast than the known windows gui

if you are used to linux try to compile, see if it lacks any library, and once compiled use it with sudo, some distros doesnt allow to acess to low level usb as a regular user

i dont know if someone uploaded the compiled binaries somewhere

the problem in lsdj is that live mode is called "live", but what if those were called "tracker" mode and "queue" mode ? no live then!!!

jokes apart, ive played live by plugin to the table only my android phone with mp3 of my own songs, thats was me on the show, as already had been told, If you dont lie on what you do why is that cheating ?

seems legit

i still remember a time when chiptune was a word used to call things that sounded as if they were done with a real 80's chip but using a contemporary device
