Hey I'm brand new to the scene and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on guitar tone/effect/overall sound and chip. I'm working on a super limited budget (Okay I have no money) and I was wondering if there are any home brewed ways to make it all work. Or is it just one of those things that you mess with until you get a sound you like?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. smile

(sorry if this is the wrong place to be asking this... really had no idea where else to put it)

how much harm can you come to really if you just mess until you get a sound you like
it's kind of like making guitar music (you don't follow a rule book for THAT do you???) except you are going to add chip music

Definitely experiment. Also listen to known good examples of chip+guitar, but don't feel like you need to copy their lead. You'll hear a lot of different ways to approach the idea.

Anamanguchi (guitar is more prominent in their recent recordings)
J. Arthur Keenes Band
The Glowing Stars
Danimal Cannon
Awkward Terrible
Revengineers
Starscream's "Future, Towards the Edge of Forever" has some good guitar on a few tracks

you need a guitar that can sync to lsdj

I'm gonna feel silly for asking this but... what do you mean?

You need to buy a guitar with an arduino port

Would it be possible without said port? Cause like I said I'm on an extremely tight budget.

Uh, I think Saskrotch and Danimal Cannon are being sarcastic.

don't worry about it dude, these guys are just messin' around with you because it's really hilarious when people don't know things, or something!

you should google arduino and lsdj sync though 'cause that stuff is pretty interesting, i'd say.

whatever sounds good to you is what works!

i change mine around between songs with distortion / reverb / drive, etc.

typically let the song dictate the guitar.

just have fun man!

Hook your guitar to ableton live through the mp3 knob.
Honestly, just have a good time with it and you'll find what you want.
Don't think of it so much as Guitar and Chiptune as much as just thinking of Music.

It really is all about trial and error man. As most of these guys are saying just do you thing man. A fried of mine does chiptune base then songs over it and will through guitar in here or there. Find your sound and run with it dude! Good luck
