This is my favorite thing you've ever done, easily. The chord changes really remind me of Paul McCartney's more theatric songs during the tail-end of The Beatles. You also sound really comfortable singing in this style and it really makes for a great vocal performance, too.

It's definitely a departure from your previous work.  This is the kind of thing I want to listen to after a long day, as opposed to rockin' computer savy in the car.  smile

This is exactly the thought it triggered for me too. This is quite a departure from your previous writing!

It's a really exquisite set of songs, very well recorded and wonderfully performed. I agree with an0va that it's a great style of singing for your voice.

That being said, it's going to take me some time to get used to it; only because I'm so used to your previous work. It has less to do with the departure from a more chip-centered sound (I think) and more to do with your writing style, and the wider instrumentation. I think anyone not previously familiar with your work would love this immediately though.

"Okay" is probably the best song I've ever heard.

I enjoyed this so much. Especially the vocals. Just great.

But how in the world did you make the sampled drums on "Southern Accent" sound so natural? My mind kept trying to tell me it was a real drumkit. :-o

good dynamic variation, humanization, triplet rolls, ghost hits etc.

This is perfect. Just was in Canada for a week, drove all the way up to Quebec. Now I return to realize that while I was experiencing the beauty of Canada, this beautiful album was constructed miles/kilometers away. Really great release smile

Yeah, I would say there's definitely a big leap between this and CS, I can see how it would take some getting used to, especially since nothing has been released in the interim (certainly a regret of mine); also, I love anyone who ever compares my stuff to The Beatles in any small way.  The drums on Southern Accent are entirely GB, WAV and noise recorded into seperate tracks, not much done to the noise, but the WAV was compressed/gated/distorted/EQed/slapbacked like crazy.  Like Victory Road was saying, I think the key to making a sequenced drum part feel real is to pretend that you're playing them and put in things that you would play (or at least would WANT to play) and variation is the biggest thing.  A real drummer would rarely play the same identical fill twice or play every bar the same, a little variation goes a long way.  Also, tambourine makes everything better, always.

Thanks so much to everyone who's purchased the album, the reception has been really lovely.

So true. That's always been my target when it comes to sequencing drums. I get that. But the compression/gating/distortion/EQuing/slapback really brought it out in an awesome way. Man... that's just...

Thanks for the insight! big_smile
