I just bought a Kaoss pad 3 for my son as a surprise Christmas gift (I had seen it on Sat Night Live and someone told me what it was). My son composes and plays music. I thought it would be a great gift. He just flew home from Austin for the holidays. I see that he has hooked up an M-audio black box reloaded to his laptop.
Did I make a mistake-does the m-audio do the same thing as the kp3?
Nah, tbe maudio is an effects processor and interface, the kp is a effects instrument and sampler. 
Man i wish my mon was badass enough to buy me a KP3 lol
also, i think the KP3 is a great Christmas gift - i think your son would really like it and could get a lot of use out of it. I certainly would!
