Awesome. fuck the fair play / copyright issue. Its sampling. Are you really making loadsa money from this? no. Love it!
It completely fair play as far as im concerned; if America can bomb Nagasaki, you can sample such historical videos.

Do more plz

i think 2.6. i run it on a similar spec mac machine. but id reccomend try 2.8 first and go down to the version that runs nicely, depending on what you want to do in renoise.

video is sick! so theres notes in the columns; they are just being ignored whilst piggy transmits midi directly into the AY chips' brain? I love you.

ah yeah if its just one RCA then clearly just for video, not audio. bummer. I really dont know what to suggest at this point, other than potentially killing yourself by discharging a capcitor when you open and potentially fuck up a lovely atari ST monitor.

Sell the STFM, buy an STE. i dont want to sound like an unhelpful dick but this is a good way to save yourself all the trouble, if you can get one reasonably in the U.S.A

by the way are you sequencing using Piggy, and using Maxy's midi in to trigger the chip remotely? That is one of the many things I aimed to do with my ST. Id love to see even a video with poor sound direct out of your monitors speaker, just to see the awesomeness involved. please make one! big_smile

im not going to be much help here, unfortunately and living in America, you dont have access to the atari st's we do here in Europe, but when i looked into what to buy, all i saw was STE STE STE STE phono audio and video out. so despite being able to acquire several STFM's i never dared do so.

What outputs does the STFM actually have? RF? VGA?

Basically if theres no mod for extracting the audio out of the video cable, then youre going to need a monitor with a headphone jack (that can connect to the atari), or to buy an STE, or to unhook the speaker cone, and replace it with an audio jack. You could maybe keep the cone and add a switch to flip between speaker and line output.

Ive had trouble getting my atari rig set up even, and im using an STE! good luck with your quest!

rvan: thanks alot for that. Yeah Arch sound nice but too complex for a linux n00b. and interested to hear you rate debian over ubuntu due to stability issues!

I found puredyne too, which some guys from my university helped make when I was there. this was 2010 though and it seems to be not supported anymore. that and im guessing i could just take that list of apps bundled with ubuntu studio and puredyne and just install them manually to a Mint-loaded PC.

Im going Mint!

double post

wow, thanks. i dont understand half of that but im sure that post will be extremely helpful to me soon. big_smile

nimblefox; cheers fella! il give them both a try alongside maybe mint and ubuntu studio.

++++ seq24 is a nice little linux sequencer that reminds me much of atari st Cubase, mixed with abletons clip mode.
ive been using it on windows to control an emu 5k ultra sampler, and its been causing much joy for everyone involved tongue

Im planning on getting into linux. For one my girlfriends laptop is so sluggish with Windows 7 installed and all the bloat; so were looking for a nice begginer friendly distro that will breathe new life into it. (its like 2gb ram and 2.0 ghz processor)

Ive heard Ubuntu and Debian thrown around alot, and given the music software availible il probably go for Ubuntu or some derivative of it.

Can anyone speak about Mint linux? If theres any point going for that over plain Ubuntu? Ive heard its more geared towards begginers.
Or any other suggestions on suitable distros for such a computer; to be used primarily for the web. Music software is not a prerequisite, really. (At least not for her laptop)

All insight greatly appreciated here; ive spent many many years being a geek, but never bothered to look into linux before.

i can advocate scienceguys duinoboys being nice (tho then i heard there was a problem with midi out, which didnt affect me as i use it purely for MGB and midi in.) i cant speak about the midi out versions of LSDJ though, sorry.
