speaking of Midibox SID - the one I bought from Florida years ago has just been exhumed - has 8 x 6582 chips (exactly the same as 8580 just rebranded) and I am currently investigating how to slave it (as opposed to just playing ASID songs).

Awesome - very keen for one as my Thomi Malen SFX clone isn't working really at all!

Anyone use an sd2iec and save sid wizard files? I don't want to buy one and find out it doesn't work.

I was actually about to test that tonight - no reason it shouldn't work with SD2IEC drive as #8 for saving songs and instruments etc smile

I fortunately grabbed an Alien Group "Voice Box" unit a few years ago - damn lucky to see it pop up on ebay - is user-port box for the C64 and it is the only speech synth I know of that has a 'sequencer' written for it (i.e. 3 channels of SID output work in conjunction with the speech output).

The software is in basic and you have to play in each musical part for each SID 'voice' - then you have to record expression parts for the speech and also sequence the notes for the 'singing'. Damn HORRIBLE interface but I think it was done in 1983.

Also the animated face can be fully customised and looks suspiciously like David Byrne of Talking Heads.

Here is one of the example songs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zvTmC7mzb4

Here is me messing with the preset "bicycle built for two" pre-loaded so you can trigger words at any chosen pitch - https://vimeo.com/135723824

Sorry for the shameless plug but can I propose defmon with my adapter?

Scannerboy's user-port adapter is awesome - I used it for a live gig a few weeks ago to sync my 2SID stuff in Prophet64 with two external Electribes - the set is here! (half of the set is 2SID output and electribe output, other tracks are Ableton)

Also a quick vid of the actual user-port dongle:

The debut G.I.S EP has just gone live on Bandcamp!

This little 4-Track teaser EP is an introduction to G.I.S before his full album "Weather and Travel" lands sometime in the near future on DataDoor.

Wonderfully playful and dreamy 1980's synth sensibilities, grand 8-Bit chord changes, heart-warming arpeggios - almost as if a more melodic Bochum Welt decided to invest in an array of analogue synthesisers to recreate lost video game themes.

The EP is free (or name your price) - and DataDoor are proud to be working with the mysterious G.I.S.

This has been my setup for the last three or four gigs I have done (and ironically these have been the first three or four gigs I have ever done with all SID / C64 gear):

SX-64 with Mssiah cart / sd2iec drive (SID 6581) synced manually to the C64C output
C64C (SID 8580) with Prophet cart / Aprosand cart-expander with SID Cart for external SID 6581 / sd2iec drive / Suncom Icontroller / 7" LCD screen
External FX sends - Strymon El Capistan tape delay / Shitty BOSS ME-1 guitar stomp box (for phasing fx).
