There are various reasons why you might prefer to use a ROM over using in_vgm. As the OP specifies, that is what this thread is for anyways. You can continue using only winamp for Genesis music if you'd like.

the fact that you are working so hard on NES stuff that you actually have a need for an intern warms the cockles of my cold dead heart
agreed

Topic: nsfimport_v0.1 (a working nsf to ftm converter) (9 replies, posted in Nintendo Consoles)
It appears that the NSF is imported with every frame representing one row in the tracker. Everything won't be put into instruments for you (all effects occur in the tracker-space), but this is great because it makes it incredibly easier to look at everything and 'reverse engineer' a track or sound you like.
So if you liked this instrument from Crystalis, it's easy to see how the volume envelope would be 1 3 6 7 8 8 7 6 7 7 7 6 5 3 1.

also it led me to find a prototype rom for a GBA game called Flashback Legends. only in french though.
I forgot about that! I played a little bit of it, but I don't think I tried getting far. I wonder how complete it is.

I forgot to mention- if any appear really slow, like the pin-bot ones, it may be your browser. Some broswers have a hard time with gifs that run at faster speeds like 17ms per frame.

This has no real home yet, but I've begun a collection of video game gifs. I'm posting most of these sporadically to my twitter, but if anyone digs this stuff here's the folder for it: photobucket link
There's no real cohesive theme, outside of these being things that I think are aesthetically pleasing. Or I find them interesting technically, artistically, or bizarre in some way. The only two systems represented so far are the Amiga and NES, but more will be on their way eventually.

man i had to open up a rom of taboo to see what it is, i can't believe someone made a tarot card game and actually sold it!
It's ridiculous. If that was sold close to the price of a normal game, what a ripoff. But as long as David Wise made some money off of it, all is good.

Excellent. It appears that the default is the pause key and \.
Thanks! Yeah I've been making some gifs from games recently. I want to have some where every frame is accounted for. I made this first:
But since it's choppy I wanted to capture a segment of how it really looks:
edit: What the hell? Safari is playing this back really slowly. Chrome is getting it right. hrm...

The TAS edit function in FCEUX seems like it should work for most things I'd want it to, but it needs to start from the beginning of the game. That can be problematic if I'm interested in something that's an insane number of frames into the game and don't want to have to map out the controls to get there.
edit: TAS edit also overrides the sprite and background enable/ disable controls.

Re: NES NSF Player with Mute Support? (14 replies, posted in Nintendo Consoles)
Unfortunately I don't believe there are any options for doing this on hardware (yet). You'd have to make your own ROM with channel muting, or continue doing this the way you have been.
NSFLive is for PC (XP?). It's cool because it allows you to export .dmc samples from NSFs-

I didn't even know the SMS/ GG could support samples until some of your recent youtube uploads. Really cool stuff. Did you use SMS sample-playback on Dynasty? Did any games use it?
