Best wishes! Take care of yourself, that is what is most important. I don't think this community is going anywhere, so we'll be here when you return. smile

i find doubling sequenced stuff doesnt sound as good as guitar stuff,, cause its too close to the og.. its the variation in playing between takes what makes guitars sound fatter...

I think there's enough room for changing a doubled voice to make it worth it/ fatter. You could play around with differing amounts of vibrato, detuning a voice, making them not perfectly in time with each other, giving them drastically different envelopes. That can give you plenty of variation!

I think everyone from this forum will rush to tell you that there's no best way, and that the only concern should be on making good music. smile

I realize this isn't very insightful, but it all comes down to preference. I'm someone who appreciates hardware. I admire the various devices made that produce chip music, and like hearing how they're used. Kind of like a vintage synth fetish. However, there are people making awesome music with software. Nothing is necessarily better or worse off for using hardware or not.

I hate to write off entire genres, but dubstep does nothing for me based on what I've heard (of both the chip and non-chip variety). Sorry dubstep fans. It's as if it is stitched together by the lesser enjoyable aspects of other genres. Worst of all worlds. I'll check out some things posted in this thread, however. People can feel free to post recommendations, I'll give them a chance...

It's possible I have somewhat the wrong impression, because I see SKGB mentioning Bit Shifter. I like his music and live performances!

Also, I cannot conceive how 'bro step' isn't a derogatory or mocking term. Perhaps I'm an asshole, but that sounds really bad to me, like something you'd say if you were making fun of it. tongue

I've heard some awesome dub, on the other hand.

Those first two links aren't working!

might also just be cool to double up the sound of the NES so it sounds fatter - kinda like guitar overdubs on rock recordings.

I'm picturing weird as hell compositions with 2 triangles, 2 noise, 2 DPCM, and no pulses... big_smile

If I had to pick a recent favorite of mine, it'd be WaveRock by Stello Doussis. smile
You can find it in the HVSC, but here's an MP3-

The pinnacle of chip music is the Elevator Action soundtrack.

Awesome, thank you!

hmmm, my guess is that a CCAM Model 2's would all sound the same... Its the same ASIC revisions...

But above it says that it depends on the revision of the Model 2. So they're not all the same ASIC revision, if you have a Model 2 VA2 and VA2.8 (apparently), they're discrete 2612s...

Posting to say I'm interested in seeing where this is going! smile

Low-Gain, don't be rude and offer useless, cynical input. If there's one thing I and many others here can't stand, it's people being needlessly discouraging. You've made NES mods, for one. Should people have told you to 'quit fucking around'? Be an adult and show respect for others.

I don't know! It'd be cool to hear if TmEE has advice on certain models for his mod. smile

I did some sampling from animal style's CCAM modded console, and there was unfortunately some distortion in the right audio channel. I can provide an example later tonight. I don't know if there's some weird mistake with this particular implementation of the CCAM, or if the model involved is part of the problem. I guess the next step is to find out what revision model 2 joey has, I didn't bother finding out before...
