not sure if my music qualifies as "chipmusic" OR "8bit" so i'm kind of screwed either way.

i think that given the perceived turf war between cm.org and 8bc, it would be nice to have another site that represents a "neutral zone" where people can share music but without all that previous baggage.   i don't think noisechannel.org is going to be it though.  the execution needs to be better.

i dig this actually.  but it also looks as if it's from a deleted scene from The Fifth Element that would have featured crazy futuristic bar musicians.

sort of pacific northwest here.  vancouver is pretty much Teh Land Of No Chip though.

would be interested in heading down to some seattle events if there are any in the near future. (i should have at least gotten PAX tickets while i had the chance, dammit)

hey Receptors, great interview so far.  i think you did a nice job conveying how chipmusic is kind of an umbrella category for all the various sects that differ not just by hardware, but stylistically too.

i also dug how you explained where the DS-10 fits into this whole taxonomy, i probably would have said the same thing.

six-part interview though? did you sit and chat for like 5 hours or something?? smile

any recommended apps for musician pages?  i see BandPage a lot, but i'm not a big fan of the interface though, kinda clunky. is there anything else that's cleaner?

that was a great presentation.  but just as i thought i was getting the hang of the basics of FM synthesis, i think i also got more intimidated by the apparent unpredictability of generating FM sounds.

piecing together overtones isn't really how my brain thinks about achieving a particular sound.  can any of you FM guys explain through an example?  for instance, getting a brass or an electric guitar sound?

Greeting from Germany, I had the time of my life !!!

hey man, great pics.  i was trying to keep track of all the people who played during the open mic so your photostream has been super helpful.

Like...
I lack some basic terms like mixers, VST's, Trackers, equalizers or maaaany other things. . . Bahhh I might be asking a little too much or too broad of a question.. BUT if you guys could give me a good quick read on a site or even a book I could pick up or something.

here's all you need to know:

my only real feedback is to use a different font than what looks like Courier New.  but if you must, at least alter the line-height in the CSS so that it's easier to read the paragraphs.

I too remember when "online" was "On-Line"

also, that woman's eyes have successfully penetrated my soul and stole my innermost secrets.

first time at blipfest and it really was like nothing else.  I had an awesome time meeting fellow musicians and enthusiasts and seeing the amazing performers.  a couple of the awesomest surprises for me included Talk to Animals and Knife Fricking City.  also the debuts by the demoscene powerhouses (Ultrasyd, 4mat, cTrix) were simply awe-inspiring.

there's pretty much none of this going on back in vancouver, no one there to chat with about chipmusic, so to see all these like-minded bros and sros congregating in one place brought a tear to my eyelid.

i wasn't going to before, but i'm now seriously considering going to bliptokyo too.  it's worth possibly getting swallowed up by another earthquake (too soon douchebag, too soon).

infinite thanks to the whole blipcrew for all that you do and making this one of the definitive experiences of my year and/or life

this was one of my first chip events and i had a blast!  thanks to facundo, herr_prof, the pulsewave peeps and everyone else involved in putting it all together.  also bud melvin = king of kings.  super glad to finally meet a whole bunch of you cool cats in person.

does anyone have a list of who else played, in order, at the open mic?  it was an honour for me to play a set in such fine company, and some of the other artists' names are slipping from my memory and i don't want to forget.

btw, in case anyone was wondering, here's the other song i was going to play before i got b00ted off for being a retard and not realizing the one-song limit: http://chipmusic.org/bryface/music/blip … korg-ds-10

Don't worry, everyone involved in event planning this week checked with all of the major networks to coordinate properly with the tapings of their late-night shows.

That's good.  Yeah I just checked with Jon Stewart and he was all "s'all right holmes, i got your back son.  Also save me some tickets to see 4mat live"

whoops, you're right.  CRISIS AVERTED
