Oh wow. This is the best possible start to my day. Hilarious.

(Tom you're an awesome sport - you rock smile)

I can't stop looking at that in fascinated horror. It kind of looks like Tom if bees stung his face and he swelled up a lot (and he wore "properly" fitting flannos)

hilarious

if its not 8bit or dance, what genre could you pin this under? A ongoing problem i have had is trying to put this under a certain genre, ill be sure to email around the pre-release to anyone that wants it once its finished so i can get some more CC and hopefully show you guys that the other tracks are more 8bit more dance.

Why do you have to classify yourself as a genre? (Not that "8-bit" is a genre anyway) yes it's good to be able to market it to a certain group I suppose, but you've seen what happened here. People who are into a specific genre/style/subcategory can be pretty pretty picky and defensive about what does and doesn't fall into their idea of what that genre is (ie. this thread).
Why do you need to put a label onto it? Is it to market it to a certain sector of the public? Once you have music ready to be shared, put it where you think people will discover it, and hopefully like it, and let it speak for itself without pigeonholing it - plenty of other people will do that for you.

the point i was trying to make was simply that chip artists as a whole don't need to rely on wackiness or humor to get the full message of their art across.

Artists in other genres do things unrelated to their music to get their point across, whether humourous or otherwise. Lady Gaga with her "scandalous" costumes and filmclips is a prime example. Everyone tries to create and maintain an image when they are on stage (frequently with a very different stage persona to their actual persona), not just chip musicians. It may be true that a lot of chip artists (especially - as godinpants said - in Sydney) have somewhat less serious personas that are funnier and more out there, but that doesn't make their music any less good, but it can make people stop and turn around and listen to what they're doing instead of going outside for a cigarette when someone pulls out a gameboy.

I would add to that that you guys are seasoned travelers who have been to Tokyo a couple of times before who went as a group. A phone could really be super useful for a lot of people. Also is this the train deal you used?

http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/suica-nex/

That would be the one

We got along okay without a phone for the most part. We did use emails and that novel invention "the pay phone" while we were there, and made plans in advance.

And with the public transport - look into getting the Suica and NEX package thats only available to foreigners - you get the train ride into Tokyo and then suica credit for  your day to day travel. Its 100% worthwhile and much more cost effective than getting your NEX ticket and then separate day to day tickets

Not really hammering you, just thought I'd mention it (because in my head I keep kind of confusing anti-blip and SB9, its weird having people around for a chip thing that isnt a SB thing if you know what I mean)

I managed to sneak there last time and almost missed my flight home as a result.

The problem last time was around it being so many people. If we do it for lunch and/or with a smaller group we shouldn't have problems. We actually found an awesome pub when Seb was down last time as well that does awesome food and has great beers (and has things other than parmas) that might be a good alternative too

Hahaha I know! That was a joke. I'm pretty good at them (clearly).

Oh, I get that, but seriously, you'd be surprised how many people would say that and NOT be joking. No patience!! smile
I just don't like to announce anything that isn't 100% - date's only confirmed becasue the venue (May not actually be Mrs Parmas) loves us and was free that day smile

On the other hand if Eugene wants to share the line up so far he can... he does get a say after all. hehe.

Chris, we'll make every effort to get there this time - including booking in advance and not on the day smile

Also - not officially announced yet, but since no one except the Aus/NZ group look here. Next SoundBytes is Friday July 8. (yup, SB 9 08/07) Line up isn't all confirmed yet though but it'll be the first all Aussie lineup we've had since 2009 which is actually kind of nice. There is also a special something we're hoping to make happen that I'm pretty excited about personally

I didn't actually think it meant something
You can always use mibbit which is an online IRC client if you don't want to download mirc or colloquy or something

Seriously, don't cry in 6 months when you don't have the cash to come. Save now! I'm not exaggerating when I say that last years Blip Tokyo was the best gig I've been to in my life. That and it's fucking Tokyo! How could you go wrong?

Seriously. He actually says this all the time. (Even though our gigs are pretty fun.... tongue )

And that's having been to Blip NY And Blip Tokyo. Keep in mind that anyone in the greater pacific region its way cheaper to get there than to NY (oh and FWIW, Tokyo is way cheaper than people say it is) AND that last years Tokyo lineup was a bunch of amazing artists who had previously played NY. It was like the chance to see the artists you wish you'd get to see on a NY lineup again, but never will. smile

This actually made me laugh out loud and people gave me "looks"

Can't wait. I keep saying I don't want to go back to Japan again so soon but this was so fun last year. And I do LOVE their convenience stores tongue
