LOL I think she meant literally IN our house. At one time or another every Australian artist I know has graced our humble abode.

Generally the descend on the house in gangs too.

And some internationals.

And the lazerblanket - which is almost a force unto itself.

Oh - and the reason that the scene has been in our backyard is because we made it so by starting to put on gigs- so it really only does support that theory smile

don't worry about shows across the country or the world.

make it happen in your own back yard.  the scene is not in NYC, Melbourne, Montreal, or Hawkfather's house.
its were you are you.

don't force don't fake don't sweat it.

But, I am in Melbourne... and sometimes the scene IS in my house.

I have to say too that blaming your target audience for the logistical collapse of the event strikes me as pretty unprofessional. Again: if a conversation like this one is all it took to capsize the show, the plans were obviously not very solid or dependable to begin with.

Blaming the artists

This one thread alone has been very harmful for this event. JC, which is one of the 4 people funding this event, has not been comfortable at all with the negative reactions coming from ---artists themselves---.

Those of you saying you were looking forward to chip music events and people new to the scene who haven't seen a show yet, there are chip scenes all over the place - there are other shows probably local - sure they may not be as big, but the people will be friendly (in my experience) and the music will generally be pretty good wink

Artists (in my experience) are always willing to play, just give them half an excuse and you've got a show just look out for one and get along to it! smile

I'd hate to be someone who had organised / paid to travel to come to this event (or who was coming a long way after being booked and had started organising to make this happen) – how disappointing for all concerned.

Let’s take something positive from this though and treat it as a learning experience for anyone else thinking about putting on a large scale show – or hell, even a small one.

I think that reading this thread (and the earlier one) from start to finish is probably really useful for anyone in the future trying to organise a big show (not just chip, in any genre) in so far as the difference between getting feedback from people and taking their opinions on how they think you should run your show in a public forum. We’ve been there (getting unsolicited “advice”), believe me, but thankfully we’ve never had it dissolve to this level because we’ve usually nipped it in the bud – it’s amazing what a PM can do rather than replying in public and letting these things get bigger and more out of hand.

It’s interesting the difference between this thread any of the past blip threads – or any other big show... I don’t need to say what they are – you can all read.

Let’s hope that this doesn’t mean that b3tabot or others aren’t discouraged from putting on shows. We do all want to further the scene but sometimes baby steps are not a bad thing... and neither are surprise announcements – Blip Tokyo anyone?

This is awesome. Love YMCK and although it may seem pretty obvious to other people that read that list that they would be likely on the bill, I would have expected them wanting big cash, so very happy they'll be playing

(and Tokyo is close to Australia and a third of the price of NYC to get to wink )

So I looked into it a little further apparently cybernet now have the licensing for the name commodore so it's not someone else buying them out they just decided to get the name commodore rerelease it under that banner with a press release and get some publicity

Its actually interesting - if you look on the news page they talk about how they're trying to get access to be able to use the old school commodore logo. I'm a bit confused as to how they can get away with making those very clear this is the new c64 references (calling themselves commodore USA for example) if they don't hold copyright/trademark. I've been trying to find out more about who these guys are.

I figured that it is probably not just my household that's interested in the below.
No one else has posted about it yet, but some of you may know...

Anyway, they're releasing a revamped Commodore called Phoenix....

As Celsius and I were discussing kind of a cool alternative to a lappy when you can just take it on holiday with you and plug it into the TV in your hotel room and have your whole PC with you... or as a media centre...

I think there will be one in our house come end of the year

I'd say Derris-Kharlan over Raptor-Kharlan - unless that's what you meant? Derris-Kharlan's great live, but to date there hasn't been any live Raptor-Kharlan, even here in Melbourne.
It would break my heart if that happened (10K and DK) and I couldn't afford another trip to NYC to see it. Oh, and a hint, if you want Aussies, get Dot.AY on that list too.

@soundbytesoz where we post gig updates and stuff and a personal account where I post nothing.

I would love to recommend derris-kharlan's "Heaps awesome tweets y0" but there is so many of them that I don't read a high enough percentage to comment accurately tongue
