The NOmad doens't have a discrete YM chip so it will still not sound as awesome as a first gen genesis/megadrive.

This has to stop:
What an innovator..
Jack Tramiel was no innovator. The team of people he was lucky enough to have working for him were the innovators. He was repeatedly detrimental to the final fate of Commodore, Atari and their machines.
"We need to build computer for the masses", basically means "we need to sell as many as we can, therefore we must aim at a bigger market". All that Tramiel cared about was his bank balance. Just talk to anyone working with him back then and get a whiff of reality.

When you say 'the best', is this in terms of bass? Noise floor?
The other motherboards introduce much artifaction and distortion in the sound. It just doesn't sound right, there are sounds that are too low and you can't discern them, the bass is non-existent andsome sounds just don't sound properly.
Believe me I was of the thought that all these were exaggerations because they usually referred to the amplification circuit, but I hear many more problems than just that.
Oh edit to say: my shitty motherboard was VA7, that's the most common one.
For those interested, here's an in-depth description of Genesis/Megadrive motherbaords:

By the way, does the interface work properly on PAL systems too? I wonder about frequency tables and speed-related problems (everything runs slower on PAL Megadrives)

I guess it depends on the importance for you of portability.
The Nomad has a decent sound, better than a lot of the shitty VA6/VA7 motherboards, or at least a lot more bassy.
The Nomad does not have a discrete YM chip, so it's not the same as having the real YM chip in the machine.

haha h0ffman won everything
The h0ff is being unstoppable lately!`
PS: DCS didn't win the Oldschool compo, that would have been some ridiculous namevoting. RNO did with a really nice OCS demo!
It's ridiculous: Elude stops doing the boring flyby shit last year and Madwizards win over Elude with yet another boring flyby demo ![]()

Saw this one at Datastorm. Way too Hungary-centric and with certain things said that make you cringe, but still a good one.

Re: Tracker Food (Generators) (36 replies, posted in Software & Plug-ins)
There is Milky for AMIGA (A1200/A4000) too...
First off, milkytracker (a copy of FT2 which is inspired by PT), needs the SDL implementation for AmigaOS and therefore a super expanded Amiga to run at any decent speed (060 or PPC)., if at all on a 680x0.
Why would I even't use that? I have a PC I could run Milkytracker in if I was so inclined. BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. Milkytracker only supports the MOD format. That doens't even mean it makes and plays MODs like an Amiga running ProTracker. There's a reason the replay routine is special and proper players of MOD files like Modizer, XMPlay or Deliplayer implement a 680x0 emlation core to run the MODs.
It's how trying to say "hey why don't you play yoir MID files on any soundcard?". Because even if an OPL3 and an MT32 can play MID files, they don't sound even close to the same.
Why would I want to make MODs? Because I want to. And no I don't use an A500, I have a modestly expanded A1200. I 'm just not trying to use it to do modern tasks that make no sense at all.
I could ask you "why do you want to use real chips if you have emulators?".
µB you are wrong, the samples are 8 bit. the six bit volume control is actually additional to the 8 bit samples. somehow using this, 14 bit sound playback is achieved even
He's right, this is how the AHI stream driver for Paula works. You can even do 12 bit samples.

Re: sid input (c64) (3 replies, posted in Commodore Computers)
I wouldn't do that on an SX-64, you can easily fry the SID with external input and he's gonna be mad when he screws the SX up.
It's just pass through, if you don't pass it through filters, so there shouldn't be any audio loss..

Re: Tracker Food (Generators) (36 replies, posted in Software & Plug-ins)
Do you sample/convert natively on the Amiga? Comparing the input with the PT output might give an idea what's going on.
Yes, I am sampling with hardware on the Amiga. I could sample convert but I didn't have good results in the past. Should try again though.
I understand about the levels, it's what happens with the Game Boy's 4 bit samples, some of them are ridiculously noisy, like bassdrums.
I will have to figure out a way to circumvent this. Do you think recording at a higher volume, even maybe clipping it a bit, would help? How about amplifying by software? That'd make the noise worse I would tend to think...
I never had a sampler before on the Amiga so this is all new to me.
