I'm trying to understand the M.O. behind this post. If you are legitimately interested in making music, it shouldn't matter how "promising" it is. Just do it.

This is going to sound kind of douchey but if you are just window-shopping for "marketable" subcultures you have no business here.

This. Do. Fucking.

These shows totally saved would would have otherwise been an aggravating, clusterfucked 3 days of PAX. Danimal Cannon, Disasterpeace and Misfit Chris blew me away in particular.

Also: PAX East just announced its final attendance numbers at just under 70,000 people, which means we can now say we've played at the largest videogame convention/expo in the United States.

It sucks that Android is still really behind on tablet app development. I feel like Motorola et al really jumped the gun on this one. Honeycomb is nice, but really rough around the edges and lacking in functionality. I'd say give it at least 5 or 6 months to develop as a platform.

Thank you for that.

Last minute show post!

Minusbaby, Crashfaster, starPause, WDUWSTS and myself will be playing Friday night during GDC -- It's right after (or during the later half of) the Giant Robot Game Over IV party and a part of DOPE, a monthly electronic music event in SF. We've been battling for attention amidst the deluge of awesome GDC afterparties so anything you could do to get the word out would be hugely appreciated. It's gonna be like the unofficial East Vs West chiptune throwdown of GDC. We can't wait!

He must have simply mistaken chip music for something he knows anything about, i.e. something having to do with dogs.

Wait, can there be a new chip music sub-genre relating only to dogs? Please?

Oh yeah, and the Trent/Atticus score had some really chippy-sounding stuff in it. Quasi-chip music victory?

(spoilers: probably not)

Hold up here... I think everyone who finds themselves suddenly interested in electronic music has at one point asked questions like the OP's. This is antiquated tech we're talking about, and unless you grew up learning about sound engineering, It's fairly normal to assume there's an "easy answer" to everything. What makes chip neat is that there isn't.

My advice would be to play around within LSDJ before you go crazy buying gear. Learn the limitations and improvise! Start out by looking at some basic 1-channel and 2-channel echo tutorials, which you can find in the tutorial section here or on 8bc.org. Chip music and DIY in general is about working with what you have, and it's really rewarding to discover all the insane things you can do without splurging on all sort of fancy toys.
