Man, wish I was in Boston. I have an irrational desire to own a VT-101

While being technically correct is technically the best kind of correctness, in this case I think you're doing yourself no favors. Forum sales are based almost entirely on mutual trust. This kind of behavior from someone who wants to be a seller does not inspire my trust.

I think I need a 10 foot pole...

If you want an NES that cheap, get geared up for garage sale season. That's about all you'll get. Option 2 is to get a busted one and fix it yourself. Option 3 is to pay what the market value is for a working one. If you didn't notice, the US is kinda still in recession mode and everything is more expensive and your dollar isn't gonna go as far. It's just how things go.

why cant there be a spot on forums that mods cant edit or close... then like have a disclaimer. it would be like mad max

well, when trash and everyone got together to make this site, we all agreed on a no-nonsense, content high approach since we were all sick of what had happened to 8bc (now moderating that site was fucking awful)

I remember the 8bc days, the moderating there was absolutely terrible because they were constantly being undermined.

I dunno, CMO seems fairly well behaved, and has far FAR less drama than, say, neo-geo.com forums.

Wow, that thing is cool!

Oh, and the reason for the death of thru-hole is that it's actually more expensive to make, at every step of production. Just thought you should know. wink

I think there is a different possibility:

A 3rd party vendor could buy the TI chips as bare dies, and bond them to their own housings. I highly doubt TI would ever do it in-house, but it might be possible to make some kind of hipstery organic IC line that way. Maybe, kinda, sorta. Except die-bonding machines are a mind-blowingly massive capitol investment. Like, buying jet airplanes expensive.

Yes, but hipsters are far, faaaar more likely to buy organic free-fange grown-on-an-old-warehouse-roof-in-NYC potato chips than bulk bioplastic-cased ICs. And bulk is where it's at. If Jameco or Foxconn won't buy 10,000,000 pieces for their warehouse, you can bet TI won't bother making 'em, because you literally have to make them in those quantities to sell them. And they just spent years switching entire product lines to ROHS. I'm telling you, it won't happen.

I'd be curious to know if the bioplastic will fit their required tolerances and mechanical properties. Not to mention that making ICs is already extremely resource hungry and has razor thin margins, and even if bioplastic is only a few milli-cents more expensive per unit, it could totally ruin their margins and make producing new chips impossible.

Hot, yes. I still like bigger than 50W, my 70W is what I would call almost adequate for normal use. Of course, I do a lot of de-soldering, and a 50W loses heat too fast and heats up too slowly for my taste.
