Ah right, I see what you mean. The mega drive sound chip has 8 fixed algorithms, you can't assign ops as modulators and carriers in custom configurations.

For example (from memory might get the details wrong) algo 8 assigns all 4 ops as carriers with no modulators where as algo 1 is 1 carrier with 3 modulators in sequence.

Hope that helps!

exactly.
have you been able to use the fixed algo's with the interface?

sorry, i'm real new to fm.
with the vopm vst, you can set an operator to carry
another, and then modulate the other, so as to switch
carriers quickly and change the sound according to
which operator is "masking" the others.
the vopm calls it operator masking.

re:algorithms and operator masking.

although, its possible switching between presets for each channel would get the same results.

i also understand the vopm emulates a different
sound chip.
and im very new to all of this.

OK. not exactly a compliment.

but now i like the challenge to make a set with only a casio. i have a pss-130. does that count?

all four, on individual tracks?

Nevermind. I should be able to use the PSG by sending from Channels 7-10.

On the issue of mapping to MIDI CCs... I've made a generic interface for this very issue...

Check this post out: http://little-scale.blogspot.com.au/201 … evice.html

"Sometimes I find it useful to be able to send MIDI CC data from a Live track, or to be able to route a MIDI CC from a physical MIDI controller to a different MIDI CC on a track. This plugin allows both. Eight pairs of control - within each pair, one control sets the MIDI CC number and the other sets the MIDI CC value."

Maybe of interest?

THIS WORKS PERFECT FOR THE HIDDEN CC's IN VOPM !!! THANKS !!!

Yep - in a clip, go to the E for envelope. Change the category to MIDI Ctrl. You will see all of the MIDI controllers in the sub category menu. Hope this helps!

awesome!

well, I don't have 167 bucks to spend on max4live, so I'll just route my nanokontrol knobs to the genMDM midi CC numbers and get used to them. I'm glad to know each clip will have it's own "patch", I was afraid these parameters would stay "locked" to each FM channel.

Shit, the interfaces haven't even been shipped yet and people here are already talking about how they'll use it. HOW HYPE IS THAT?

i've been waiting years

I'm sorry it's so many sad

Lot's of work.

Both worth it IMO, just for control and tweakability.

that's why this is all so exciting! so tired of emulating everything...

also, the runtime is free, so with a littke work, the community might collobrate some devices that could control the sega.
