No problem man!

Yes, I don't have it in front of me but there is a dial on the strip which allows you to select the algorithm, if you look back up thread a little, little-scale posted a PDF manual which shows all the algorithm numbers.

Ah right, I see what you mean. The mega drive sound chip has 8 fixed algorithms, you can't assign ops as modulators and carriers in custom configurations.

For example (from memory might get the details wrong) algo 8 assigns all 4 ops as carriers with no modulators where as algo 1 is 1 carrier with 3 modulators in sequence.

Hope that helps!

Im not sure what you mean by op carriers? All 4 operators are supported and they will be modulators or carriers depending on which algorithm you are using. Have I got the wrong end of the stick here?

Hopefully!

it seems to me your problem isn't with banana fans talking banana talk in an apple forum - it's about apple fans asking for feedback on their apples,

I don't think I mentioned feedback threads they seem very worthwhile to me. I am all for people getting better!

trying to drum up hype for their apples,

This I don't like. true.

asking beginner questions about apples etc. all those things are apple related

If the beginner questions have been answered by a thread which is in an FAQ / Sticky then yes it bugs me. If it is a beginner question which hasn't been covered then go for it.

i'm not saying i think these threads are great but the "mods should close threads they personally don't like / their friends don't like" approach is pretty bad i think

Also agreed, I don't think playing favorites or having an unlevel playing field is even slightly cool. However, I don't think our mods do / will do this.

True, that doesn't mean it is a good idea for banana fans to talk all their banana talk in an apple forum.

I like Bryface`s idea quite a lot, although it does require extra dev work from Trash80. I think combining all the ideas would work well, i.e.

1 - A couple of extra mods and a slightly more hands on mod approach

2 - A couple of extra rules about content light threads.

3 - Brys awesome new members please read this type thing.

4 - An opt in area for off topic content.

What is the mod consensus?

but seriously why aren't you already a moderator here? i mean, i always assumed you were but then i've never seen you close any threads or anything.

Honestly, I don't think I would be very good at it, I am not particularly patient with jokey threads and my time zone is teeming with good aussie mods. Also you would end up with a forum with all threads closed unless they were about FM Synthesis cause I felt they were`t hardcore enough.

This makes me wanna pig more

Absolutely! Diabalo 3 is apparently a good reason to take a bit of time off. I agree, several mods seem inactive / busy, a couple of fresh ones might be in order to help with the influx of new users?

we have a statement in the rues that already allows for threads to be closed and/or removed at the staff's discretion so probably no new rues needed, unless we add something about release hype threads...

With all due respect then, I think the staff might need to be a bit more active with the moderation. Particularly with the types of content light threads I mentioned earlier or topics which are already covered in faqs.

Also moderation doesn't have to be a one way street, celcius's rather deft "I'm closing this thread because of x, pm me if you think differently" works well and is a far cry from the "my site my rules" environment everyone seems a bit gunshy of.

I suggested the idea of a new member forum where people had to prove they weren't fuckwits before getting access to the rest of the board but it wasnt very popular.

Actually, just another thought, would it be possible to "subscribe" or something to various subforums to be displayed in "recent posts"? Then people who don't want to see CC threads or off topic stuff just dont have to even know it is there?

i don't really think there should be "rules" about this though... or maybe there should?

How would you suggest dealing with the problem without rules? Also, I have a great deal of faith in our mods, they are smart folk, they arent going to be assholes about it.

I rather like "retrotech" as part of a description. It is descriptive and sounds cool!
