I think net labels might evolve into collections of links to bandcamp (or whatever follows it) pages. Then artists get the advantage of a nice easy way to get paid for their work while being able to track downloads / plays and being able to manage all their content really easily. Downloaders get a nice collection of curated links for the type of music they like. Bonus for everyone.

I think the most traditional net label in our scene is bleep street http://www.bleepstreet.com/ . They have great artist bios, a constantly maintained list of upcoming shows, merch, extra videos and mixes, a very slick webpage, music available on most digital download sites, a very high quality bar and a fairly clear type of music they favor. I think they are pretty much the bar for chip netlables to aspire to.

However, I think the trio of labels I like most is Metrodub, Ubik and Pause as they seem to value a few things which I rate pretty highly

- Very high quality bar.

- Pretty clearly defined idea of what music they like.

- All releases visible and downloadable on one page. Im fairly unlikely to click through one of the blog style release pages.

- Easy track previews.

Love all three of them!

I would try goattracker which runs natively on win/lin/osx. Be aware c64 tracking is Pretty unfriendly to new users compared to renoise and lsdj. Good luck!

Yeah, With LSDJ the newest build is usually fine, I can't think of any examples where older versions have useful functionality which isn't present in the current version. Also Johan usually fixes any bugs in new versions very very quickly.

Nanoloop is a totally different matter though, different versions can have really unique features.

I could be wrong but I am fairly sure LSDJ is using pretty much all the available program space. I don't think there is any left over for extra graphics. Would be an awesome idea though.

No you're not a dick, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I just personally would really wish for sigs/post counts.

Just a couple of quick observations, one rationale for not having post counts is there is no merit to posting unless the post itself is worth while. A kind of passive filter on keeping the quality of the forum up.

Also the profiles on cmo are really quite comprehensive, the allow you to link to your personal website, blog, facebook, myspace, twitter, flickr and youtube pages as well as a description where you can have a bio, arbitrary links or quotes or whatever you want, basically an extended sig. So anyone who is interested in a given user can easily get information on them but not using sigs keeps the signal to noise ratio on the forum that little bit higher!

I think not having post counts or signatures is an excellent idea.

Hally DJs with Famicoms as par of his performance, as does Kaz a.k.a. Hige http://soundcloud.com/kazcorp

I doubt it, you can probably get similar speeds by changing the groove settings in LSDJ.

I like the cut of your jib!

And Bankai I guess?

I don't know how he does it but Saskrotch is someone you might want to look at. Loads of dancehally stuff over chip musicish beats.

Sabrepulse also did it a little I think?

In like Flynn.

Thanks Nitro, will do in the future!
