Wait so which platforms do you use with each of your aliases?

OxygenStar: Sound Blaster 16 (Adlib Tracker, Impulse Tracker), midines, Amiga 4000 (rarely) for all the chiptune stuff. I also do electronic music under this name  where I will just use whatever I want.

Sadnes: midines, 1xNES. my guitar!, my voice!

Steady C: midines, 1XNES. my stupid voice!

Doomcloud: I create sounds with midines, adlib tracker, and ahx tracker, then throw them into FL for potential facesmashing groove bombers.

one more Q? linux, windows, dos?

Adlib Tracker II runs on MS-DOS, but people use it with DOSBOX (for windows) which emulates it.

can I ask why the two laptops? also does adlib tracker require much processing and ram power to run well?

So I can do "seamless" sets and just go right into the next track (pretty much what I did in the video, going back and forth on each laptop). Its also nice to have 2 in case something happens to one.. OLDIE LAPTOPS!!! RISKY RISKY!!!

adlib tracker doesn't require much ram at all. All my songs will run on a Pentium 1 with 48 mb of ram (laptop on the left in video as 48 mb). Plays back fine to me, and I didn't see any difference playing any songs on a P1 with 256mb, or even a P3 with 768 mb.

heart heart heart !!!!!

Thanks you guys!!! smile

hard mode? and what do you mean by EQing in software?

This is not too hard to correct but requires some preparation before you record: What I've done in the past is create a one measure click track on all 4 channels at the very start, then zoom into the waveform and just line the suckers up. Pending there are no hiccups while recording, lining up just one of the beats with pixel precision will keep the rest of the song in sync.

That would be the best way to do it if the software/hardware you are recording from doesn't change tempo slightly (unintentionally) during different sections. Works for lsdj, not for adlib/impulse tracker.

and god forbid you want to record each channel separately.... they just always fall off beat with each other by the end..

That is why I gave up on recording each of my last EP's track separately on Ableton Live. Looked like a nightmare.

Well, its not a nightmare if the program you are recording from keeps the same steady tempo... I've recorded separate tracks from songs made in LSDJ, and they always line up and are right in time with each other.

Well, I just ran into my first "problem" with adlib tracker, now that you mention it.... I have a new song with tons of instruments/channels being using, and most with 2 effect columns in use...... Its actually slowing the program down.  I didnt notice this until I made a dropout in the song, with just 1 chord going with 1 effect, and it was going fast like crazy! So i had to put BS fake instruments and effects in that pattern to slow it down to match the rest of the sections.

So now I really see why it was so hard to record drums to adlib tracker, the tempo is always changing... and god forbid you want to record each channel separately.... they just always fall off beat with each other by the end..

When you add all this up, I have spent 30+ hours on this new song, and its not finished yet. sad instrument design, writing, sequencing, and now keeping the tempo consistent.

But why use adlib tracker you ask?? Because I have the time to deal with these things. While everyone else is going to work, and generating income... I'm sitting at home putting in C00, ZB0/ZB1/ZB2, and other Zxx commands all over the place just to pull down the tempo so it stays around 124.58 bpm. YIKES! smile

but Lazerbeat, I believe that the end result is always worth it.. it has great sound !

dang, you guys are quick wit it!

What's the latency through gameport? Serial is super tight (like mac or Amiga MIDI interfaces)

I spent a day messing with midi in/midi out in impulse tracker when I first got the gravis/midi adaptor... I didnt have any problems, or hear any lagging... The computer I tested it on was a P3, 768 mb, running win98se.

I'm curious to see the average time people spend on creating a song, start to finish. I understand the LSDJ, adlib/FM, and c64 peeps probably take the most time since you have to build/craft the instruments. In the past, I could usually get the parts/sections all written, and sequenced in a night. Then, over the next couple days/weeks or whatever, I would tweak it here and there until I think its done. But recently, I have been spending mega time with Adlib Tracker again, and my work time is about 10 times longer...

How long (or how many hours) do you spend on a song from start to COMPLETED/FINALIAZED??

arlen doesnt care about white people.

well I would assume that IT has midi clock out... Im looking at the midi settings now, and it seems like it is capable of sending a midi clock through midi out, if thats what you mean.

Impulse Tracker has midi support, but I never got that deep into the midi options.. Just enough to test it with this gravis midi device I have (through the sb16 gameport) which you said you dont want though, heh.... I assume you can configure it.
