LoL. looks like a lot of the oldschoolers have left their gameboys behind and traded in for amigas, ataris, and actual synths/other gear. Glad I am not the only one.

E.N.Cowell Ruins EP Download

"‘Ruins’ embraces sweeping synths, keeping one foot planted firmly within scifi-inspired riffs and melodies straight out of classic 80s soundtracks, and the other foot secure in modern electronica composition. The dance between the two is intricate, and the sound produced succeeds in telling the story of sifting through the old world to harvest the best it has to offer, and using those relics to create something new and wonderful." -  PixelRecall

I would request an option to have a constantly changing PW. for that sweet sweet chip sound.

unfortunately due to hardware limitations there are only 4 stages of pw available for the the pulse channels of the 2a03 chip. its the same as a game boy's pulse channels. a limited choppy one with an lfo or envelope like i suggested earlier shifting through the 4 duty cycles is about as good as you can get really.

There are methods of manipulation that can be employed by taking advantage of some clicks caused by writing commands to the chip at a high rate. if done at regular highspeed intervals it will begin to make a tone that with alternating intervals can make a PMW type sounds. It has to be extremely fast tho and would be really intensive to control. x|k used this method in some of his old tracks before he disappeared. I havent really seen it implemented since.

A box with a tracker interface instead of knobs or buttons.

Amirite folks?

No, but really, that would be amazing.

and how would you even interface with that tracker with out any knobs or buttons? touch screen? there are already trackers for that on android, iphone, and tablets. do those not count? I am assuming we haven't reached the point where we control our technology with our minds yet. voice command perhaps?

To be honest, I really wouldn't mind a synth, even if it wasn't a chiptune based sound, that could have it's parameters automated by a table, like in trackers... That would just be rad to me.

Or a SID inspired synth, like a cheap, more producable sammichSID or SIDstation.

would be into this.

I have seen these before.  if you have watched any other of this guy's videos and read the descriptions you would know that he uses backing tracks from his laptop and plays simple leads over them with synthcart (somtimes lsdj with a keyboard) for all the videos. I have seen this dood's videos a lot as they have been coming out for years and no it is not made on a gameboy. it might have some game boy in it but its not 100%.

Just a laptop, some added chip elements here and there, and a synthcart.

An amazing soundtrack and one of the best/underated games on the system.

Also.... It is my personal opinion that FM synthesis people depend too much on other peoples patches. Learning to actually use FM synthesis is not that hard with a little reading and experimenting. I can tell you from my experience with both trackers/synthesizers side that toms are totally possible and emulations of most sounds can be done with a bit of planning and thought. For toms or any kind of sounds you just got to break down what you hear in real life and apply that to the envelopes in FM world.

If you want realistic, it might be tricky. But for synthetic/80's sounding, FM will deliver

the thing about synthesis is that it only is limited by the mentality of the user. you can avoid 80's sounding synthesis if you don't program for it. its as simple as that. today a lot of dubstep producers use FM because of it's agressive sound and how it distorts with effects. FM synthesis actually was well liked because it was better at emulating real sounds then traditional synths.

Download link added.

if you could make an NES groove station that would be sweet. if it was made like in the elektron style of machines like the analog 4 and analog rytm you would have a solid live performance tool.

A hardware 16 step system with parameter locking, LFOs for the pulse triangle and noise channels for pitch/dutycycle/amplitude, envelopes for pitch and amplitude , and mono mode where you could combine the 2 or even 3 channels for detuning/thickening/multiple layered sounds, channel seperation stereo mod on the chip for seperate processing and routing, and finally importable samples for durms etc. add midi in/out and you would be done and have a live beast for jamming with.

Another route is to build it like a monophonic synth that could stack all 5 layers of pulse/tri/noise/dpmc. Add Lfo's and envelopes to control parameters and add midi control.

I personally am way more into the groove box idea.

In 2011 WDUWSTS found himself ill and stuck inside for 5 days. In effort to make the best out of things he wrote and performed one live chiptune jam each day and uploaded them to be shared on youtube. This challenge was taken on while never leaving the cover of his bed sheets.

By request from online users, some rough mp3 versions were put out unofficially. Now, finally the recorded jam sessions are officially prepared for your listening pleasure in this release.

This album is free to download for the individual tracks. If you are feeling friendly, appreciative, or just too lazy to click each link then consider paying a dollar or more to download the album all at once smile
