I've owned and used a lot of synths. The only things I've really kept are my massively rebuilt Sequential Circuits Pro One, and a Nord Lead 3.

The Glowing Stars got to play our first show opening for Anamanguchi thanks to Morgan from Crashfaster, because he believed in us. If that wasn't already enough, the audience picked me up during Anamanaguchi's set and I was suddenly crowdsurfing. When I was deposited on the stage, my wallet and phone were missing... and they were handed up to me before I even realized they were gone. That's chipscene love, right there.

tl;dr version - I've studied a few instruments formally - piano, trombone, bass guitar, voice, organ. I've taught myself a few instruments - drums, percussion, euphonium, accordion, others. I studied composition in college and am an active composer for hire and for myself. I've played in some weird bands.

Depends on where you buy them. If you go to Radioshack you should be able to get decent ones for a total of just under $30. While you're there, get a couple of these:

stereo RCA->RCA cables should be easy to find in someone's junk drawer, and put together with those adapters, you'll be set to plug into either a DI box OR a DJ mixer.

All the connectors on the back are RCA? Can you show us the back?

Show us the mixer you have and I can give you a very specific recommendation.

You shouldn't need a DI before your mixer, you may need one after your mixer if the sound guy doesn't have one at a show. Worth carrying for emergencies like that if you have the room.

I've used EMS 64MB smart cards with MMCs in both directions tons of times with no problems!
