Kelly Green RIT is all over the place here. I may have an extra pack after I'm done doing mine, I'll let you know.

Any interest in a DMG built into either of these cases? http://8bc.org/images/kineticturtle/Fir … ying+DMGs/

We can do whatever kind of buttons and backlight you want, although I may need to order parts and all that.

Red and white didn't work, or pink didn't work? I did a spraypainted pink for a friend, came out really well. I put clearcoat on it which faded the front somehow, but it wound up looking nice.

I have green to try soon. I really want a green gameboy, I hope it works out. smile

Probably this weekend sometime.

I'm a very short distance into my personal experiments with dye and DMGs, but so far so good, and I did use acetone and I did notice that it made a difference. When I have more shells (soon) I will experiment without because I respect Apeshit, but I didn't find it to be too much of a trouble. No burns. I do need to learn how to get the dye to set more evenly, maybe that is acetone related. They look good though. More experiments ahead...

I lasted without for a long time too, but when I got a good solder sucker, my life changed, and I wished I'd had one previously.

oh god yes definitely
personally, I've never been into desoldering wick, but you definitely need some good way to desolder

A good, easy rule of thumb: Don't buy a multimeter with permanently attached cables. Make sure you get something with a continuity tester option (beeeeeeeep!)

Great move. Having a pair of PA speakers is a game-changer for anyone playing amplified music.

just try it without acetone, probably even less dye

edit: this is not speaking from experience, it's just an educated guess smile

If you're just getting started, your top stuff is gonna be:

a good variable heat soldering iron
a good pair of wire cutter/strippers
a wide range of screwdrivers incl. jewler's drivers and tri-wing/specialty bits
some kind of soldering hands free device - a desk clamp/vice grip, or those little grippy clips on goosenecks or whatever
GOOD LIGHT
and a little test amp
oh and a digital multimeter

also getting a lot of exercise on my bench:
dremel
heat gun
wire brushes
full size drill with step bits
oscilloscope
test oscillators
paint scrapers (for cleaning old stuff - like getting the glue off game boy cases where the screen used to be)

not tools, but disposable stuff I use a lot:
contact cleaner
compressed air
rubber cement
painter's tape
heat shrink tubing

Best of luck getting started in all this stuff! Nothing beats making sounds with your own gear built from scratch. smile

The Roland amps are indeed excellent.

With the options you listed above, I'd grab the JBLs. A pair of powered speakers is going to take up less space than a halfstack. A well designed 12" is going to have plenty of low end, but a cheap 15" might not do so well. Keep in mind that most bass players use cabinets that only have 10" speakers in them!

I would double the recommendation for any of Mackie's powered speakers, as well. I've owned a pair for years and they're little tanks, never had a problem with them. Mostly I use QSCs which sound incredible, but they're expensive (I got a lucky deal!)

Get comfortable with the audience and talk before songs, but don't talk before EVERY song - that pattern wears thin. It's true that a second gameboy can help here, but if people are at least applauding, you should have enough time to select the new song while they're still clapping, say a quick song introduction while it's loading, and then hit start!

Practice changing songs so you can do it quickly and flawlessly.

Another successful EMS+SP user.

Also, failing game boy screens are semi-reversible. I have yet to have a screen that has survived this long get any worse, but as of right now there's no real shortage of parts.

A bad screen is great for a gameboy you plan to use with mGB though. Don't need it nearly as much.
