Oh sorry I meant to specify that it wasn't a homebrew. But really the only way to play it is on a flash cart so I figured what the heck.

Neotoxin looked cool and has a pretty good soundtrack, but I couldn't get the rom to work in nestopia. Here's a link if you're interested:

EDIT: Just played Super Bat Puncher, that game is flawless. Cave Story status for sure, I REALLY hope they finish this someday. Guess now I'll have something to look forward to for the next 10 years (Quest for Glory II VGA remake I'm looking at you!)

Probably worth mentioning Mr. Gimmick. I mean that game is almost unknown and hands down the most impressive game ever developed.

Well it looks like Retrozone has all shells back in stock, so I've ordered a clear shell!

Working on a label right now.

I just don't like disassembling games just for the shell. But I guess I need to get over myself, nobody is going to miss that copy of NFL whatever.

Also the clear shells from bunnyboy look amazing.

Just ordered last night! Can't wait!

Until he gets his shells made, is there any good place to get them? Retrozone seems to be out of stock.

I think your instrument programming is the best part of this song. That is truly impressive.

Work on song structure and melody. But I like your style, we need more of this.

The noise snare was a little loud and somewhat droning.

Thanks for that reply yogi. I'll probably pick up just the cart for now. It's insane how little this costs.

Is the flasher software cross platform at all, or just windows? Will I be missing out a ton if I just want this for Pulsar?

This is amazing! Forgive me, but can someone tell me exactly which configuration to buy if I want to run Pulsar? I get that it's SX rom, but which memory configuration?

Also, yogi, how long did it take for yours to ship?

Nothing but good experiences from asm. I expect to get what I pay for and nothing else though, not a bunch of free stuff.

Also I had no clue ultramega was part of asm. Mind blown.

This is great! One of my favorite releases of the year!

Good points, but I'd still argue that it wasn't just pirates doing this, it was legitimate business selling legitimate original games. They just couldn't afford to get licensed. I can't imagine the megamem guys did it just to be fancy, when your a small team with little funding time is money and wasting time just to be fancy would never fly. However with the bypass switch having the megamem logo is super helpful to immediately know what you're booting. I guess we'll never know on that one.

While you're probably right that Nintendo would win in court, its still interesting to think about it. My argument would be that its not illegal to reproduce something you own for pesonal use. Could you argue that anyone using a megamem already owns a copy of the Nintendo logo by owning a gameboy?

Thanks herr-prof (PS your tweet about tales from the crib was hilarious, both me and my wife were laughing pretty good) and nitro2k01 for answering my original question.

Make no mistake, I am in no way posting this in response to other threads that may or may not have been posted at any point in time. I was simply curious.

My only thoughts on how to improve the site are these:

Built in irc. That would eliminate so many issues with the general board. Instead of "I thought this was funny, here now its saved forever and only two people will ever see it" it can live and die in a matter of minutes. If you don't care about it, just keep talking about other things. The only fear I'd have is that there would be legitimate conversations that need to be preserved. A log of maybe 48 hours would have to be kept and one could petition a mod to move the length of the convo to its own thread to be both read and continued by all. This would create more work for mods, but I imagine it would happen so infrequently that it shouldn't be a huge issue. Perhaps in the future If it got busy enough another mod could be added that focuses primarily on chat.

More strict enforcement of the rules. The rules are great. I've read them personally several times and they are the perfect balance of freedom and strictness to promote a great environment for all. The issue I see is that there is inconsistent enforcement. When there is enforcement its usually great. A clear explanation of why a thread is being closed, etc. If there's a rule that the mods don't agree with or want to enforce, remove it. Or change it. Do something because lack of enforcement of one rule makes the rules meaningless and opens up a lot if arguments about bias and favoritism when a rule is enforced inconsistently. I understand that mods can't just sit around all day and read every single post. Promote the use if the report button, as well as give feedback. If someone is reporting nonsense warn them then take their button away.

Lastly, a clear discipline outline. If you break the rules what happens? The mods talk and then decide what to do? Sure this is great but entirely subjective and time consuming for mods. Something as simple as a three strike rule. Break the rules, you can't post for a week. Break them again (within a defined timeframe) and you can't post for two weeks. Break them again and you're banned for a month. Break them again and you're banned forever. Keep in mind that its also against the rules to create another account, so getting banned and creating another account would get you farther away than anything. Not knowing the rules isn't an excuse to break them either. They're not that long at all.

Those are my thoughts.

If I rememeber correctly the reason why unlicensed developers did this was due to a lawsuit Sega had with an unlicensed Dev. There is nothing illegal about building your own Dev tools and releasing a game for a system without being licensed. Hence all the tengen games for the nes, there's nothing Nintendo could have done. So what sega did was require a game to show their logo on boot. This was because technically, it WAS illegal to reproduce their copyrighted logo without their permission. Iirc, that argument did not hold up in court.

I believe Nintendo did this with the gameboy both for that reason, to make it harder for pirates to reverse ebgineer, and as a way to have a checksum to make sure the cart is reading correctly.

Compare the gameboy to the nes that didn't have a system in place. Its very common to boot the nes  fine with all sorts if cool graphics glitches. On a gameboy that's far less likely because if there's any issues the boot ROM will pick it up.
