Was that Sega Genesis native? I'm not too sure it was...
Plus, it's still out there. THIS project HERE as many many possibilities.

Ya fn+backspace will act as delete. I used to use DefleMask through wine (crossover), and this bugged the HELL out of me... until I stumbled upon the fn thing and my mind was blown.
I still track on my windows laptop, though, haha. I think until more developers begin coding their stuff for macs it's gunna be a rough road (that's if you're faithful to one or two in particular which aren't ported).
Renoise is awesome.

That's the whole point of this thread. To recognize and find styles and techniques that you–yourself–enjoy.

Ya that's totally relevant! I've actually never given glissandos or any type of run like that any serious thought. That's a great example, though! Just cuz it's not chip doesn't mean you're gunna get hated (by me, at least).

more often than not my melody stuff comes to me in my sleep, which is really unnerving sometimes but its also a blessing. maybe my mind is the most creative in that period inbetween deep rem and waking up and a lot of time it is a battle for me to get those ideas out. but theres a clarity there whenever i actually go to jot it down that doesnt fully make sense to me, its almost a matter of recalling an actual memory or something that the idea is fully realized before i get it out. to me its sort of symbolic of the essence of creating for yourself, the physical act of thinking and then doing and bringing your idea to realization, but it still creeps me out.
Holy crap! This happens to me all the time! Ill think of a tune, lyric, or even a chord progression that seems like genius, then go to bed/wake up fully and it'll be gone. It's getting them out at the right time that's hard. It's gotta be that your mind is more relaxed and not running at a high frequency cycle or something.
The musician as a clairvoyant... Romantic era thought. Really cool stuff temp:)

I've always written my melodies by whatever I was humming in my head as I let my accompaniments repeat over and over. Sometimes I end up singing stupid lyrics to it, sometimes it just comes to fruition so fast I don't need to use any sort of technique.
But yes, letting each sound have their own dynamic space is a huge thing, I think, and can lead to some awesome variety!

Live life, It will beat you down. Tell the story with art. Stop being so technical. Let go. Be you. Listen to criticism. You don't need drugs or to pay admittance to those with inflated egos.
This comment probably makes the most sense. But there's no harm in a little discussion/sharing besides the fact:)

Haha, I'm not interested in copying the "greats." I want to have a discussion on individuality and specific aspects of your technique that you/others find characteristic and interesting. In this way MAYBE we can have a huge public discussion/repository of how amazingly diverse Chipmusic really is. That's my hope... anyway.
You've got a pretty unique style, that's for sure:)

you should check out the music of Danimal Cannon.
This would help you:)
Mixing this stuff can be a pain in the arse, from experience. But if you're after Danimal's sound, I think he'd be more than happy to give you some advice.

Re: how to make your songs musically interesting (97 replies, posted in General Discussion)
To me the most interesting thing about the majority of the responses here is that some people can't seem to understand the point of the topic; I'm baffled by how much people think I'm trying to tell them how to make their music, or that I'm trying to set down a template for good music... I'm aaaallll for the humanist argument if you want to take this thread that way.
again, "ChipMUSIC seems to need more musical discussion. Also, I don't think this is a tutorial necessarily... there shouldn't be a tutorial for writing music."
but this aspect seems to have gotten out of hand and has strayed massively from the topic: positive and useful musical discussion through sharing different strategies... NOT a tutorial. NOT a guide on good music. MAYBE a discussion on limitations. It IS a subjective list. it CAN BE an aid in your own musical intuition.
Maybe a lot of people in this scene are just too passionate and opinionated to be level headed about this kind of discussion in particular (not that I'm trying to be... I just wanna talk about music). No offense... that can obviously be a great thing sometimes. Maybe if you don't wish to share your experiences of what YOU think makes music (yours or anyone's) interesting, then pass by the thread? Anyways, as the OP, I'd like to bring this thread back to what it was intended for. It's funny how we can't seem to have a strict discussion about musical technique and style.
ps: Danimal, I'll back you up if they go all West Side Story on your ass.
