when i'm transcribing something i don't want to have to count pixels. i want actual note names.
I could always see what note it was just by looking at the location of the block. So I had no problems transcribing stuff. But yes its maybe easier for some people with actual note names. For me it doesnt really matter, both are good. 
really? i'm super relieved to be able to see the notes i'm tracking rather than having to go by trial and error.
What do you mean trail and error? You can clearly see where the block is
