The self-titled Sycamore Drive EP has had 843 downloads and 3426 plays on the Free Music Archive (since the middle of December 2010) which puts it at over 1000 downloads overall across bandcamp and all the other places it is hosted on. Sales of the EP (through donation) have been £23.49 in total.

The writeup is cringeworthy, but this looks like fun.

You should set up a bandcamp or something, so people can listen before they download.

Cool! And I thought Peter King was the only one doing this in a larger scale. Do you know if there are more people doing it?

I'm sure there are more. Curved Pressing in London make one-off dub plates if you're just looking for a single copy to keep for yourself. They also make as little as 100 records on a normal pressing.

I read a good article about it. IIRC, you should estimate about $1000 for a small batch run of 500 records... that's usually the minimum you can get done. That's 12" records on regular vinyl... the cheaper marble-like "splatter-vinyl" is made from the scraps and while it may look cool, it's much lower quality. Usually on an order like this you will be lucky if you break even, and that's if you can sell them all. So yeah, it's expensive, and not something you do in the hopes of making any money.

also you will probably need to pay for mastering because you shouldn't use the same mastering you would use for CD/digital.

edit: here's the article http://www.noiseaddicts.com/2009/02/rel … -on-vinyl/

Ah thanks for the reply! I knew it was expensive, that's why it was just to satisfy my curiosity. In the future I would like to have songs of mine released on vinyl, cause I love it. The article is really nice!

...or you can get hand-lathed vinyl that you can get in much smaller quantities for more per $, or this...

I'll be honest, I don't even really see why we have a music submission place. If you're not willing to put time and effort into crafting releases rather than songs, I'm not likely to download your music anyway. I'm much more likely to take a chance on a release by an artist I don't know than to listen to one song each by four or five different artists.

I agree, and I agree with what you and some others said before, which is that the music section should be featured more prominently. The way we interact with websites is mostly intuitive, ya gotta throw the music in people's faces just a little bit without being spammy.

Lez DOOOO ITTTT!!!

There is a big space under who's online. Would it be possible to integrate a flash player the size of just a play icon with the latest 5-10 songs or 5-10 random songs per page (with an artist/song name)? I don't think that would intrude too much.

Isn't there an Anamanaguchi vinyl?

Yes, their latest album (not the Pilgrim soundtrack) is on vinyl.

Goto80 also has two 7'' singles - Bushrunner and Papaya EP.
Bodenstandig 2000 (http://bodenstandig.de/2000/) released a 12'' album.
Covox released the Final Mission EP 7''.
Bit Shifter is on the V/A Gully Gotham Grit Volume 1 LP and on a split record with Maladroit and Capslock on a label from the Netherlands.
The 8 Bit Operators Glomag Megamix was released on vinyl.
Firebrand Boy obviously has the Orange 7''.

http://www.antenne-tilburg.nl/ - I'm positive I bought chip vinyl from here in the past.

http://www.retinascan.de/ - and here. they have the Musikfladen #001 7'' with A Boy And His SID on it, a Receptors 7'' and a Role Model 7''. Their 7''s are at this link - http://www.retinascan.de/phpshop/themes … ktionsid=5

www.discogs.com is also excellent for chip vinyl.

If you want to know what chip vinyl there is out there though (this was just stuff off the top of my head), there was a thread 3 years ago on 8bc.org where loads of people posted their CD/vinyl chip collections. Bit Shifter's list was particularly impressive as I recall.
