Hey all, i had a question that i couldn't really find answers to in terms of quality for chipmusic... and that question is how does the AGS fair as a chiptune machine?

I've had it for a long time and ive only used it for on the go lsdj work that later would be played live on my DMGs but ive decided to get nanoloop 2.7 and i started looking into the quality of the SP and already ive heard that it's not the greatest sounding gameboy out there which is a shame because ive heard some aweomely beefy stuff coming out of nanoloop.....

I've also notived there are diff versions... mine is the front-lit 001 compared to the backlit 101.

Was curious to know if there are any differences sound wise from the 2 if one is worse... also from what i can tell not much use in prosounding this boy since it's such a pain to do and the differences are minimal? amirite?

i'll probably go for my DSLite which surprise to me has actually great sound (so people say) but my biggest issue with that is syncing... i was hoping to sync it with other stuff and the DS will definitely kill that for me....

I guess i'll have to compare once i get my nanoloop cart and see if the sound difference is really worth the lack of syncing.

did that.. some pretty awesome stuff right there... except that the entire store practically is sold out.

Definitely interested in that DMG screen panel would be a great upgrade for my old DMGs with very sketchy backlights (and also for a couple that i killed the screen on but still function)

Hey So i'm in the process of building a new live rig for my upcoming shows and i had a few questions about gameboys and some modifications...

1. i've previously tried plugging in a power adapter into the gameboy to not need to use batteries but ive always noticed there was a buzzing sound that came out when i did that... compared to when i had batteries, the sound was clear as crystal.... now i've looked online and saw that there are adapters for the DMG power plug that convert it to USB and i could just run them off a battery pack or a USB-wall adapter.... so the question is:

Is this a common thing to buzz when powered by the power plug? will hooking up the DMG to a USB wall adapter cause the same buzzing? and is there a fix i could do to eliminate that buzzing? maybe changing caps or something?
(Ideally id get rid of batteries and build an arduinoboy or teensy boy directly inside the battery case IF i can avoid the buzzing)

2. I'm planning to use the gameboys (2 of them) with midi hooked up to an arduinoboy or a teensyboy... i tried to do some research on the teensy in USB over midi and see if i could connect 2 teensys to the same computer and have them be separately identified but could not find any solid information... so the question is:

can i hook up 2 teensyboys onto the same computer (ideally iPad since that's what im gonna be useing to drive them) and will they get identified as separate devices? (i could probably use arduinoboys and simple change the midi channels on one of them so they work together in the midi channel spectrum but this means i need an extra MIDI input adapter which i'd like to bypass and use straight USB midi....

3. thinking of changing my old backlights in my DMGs and i see that there are el backlights nowadays but i remember back in the day they said that they also caused a slight buzzing sound compared to LED backlights... was wondering if that's still the same case or they evolved....if not then what would be the best backlights for the DMG currently?

4. what are cool useful hacks that have come up recently for the DMG? it's been a couple of years since i really followed much chip news and now that im getting back into it id like to see what's the latest craze when it comes to DMG hacking... ive seen a lot of lil parts on kitch-bent but some of them im not even sure why they exist....

Sorry if these are loaded questions.... looking forward to hearing some replies big_smile

Thanks guys

If you open an issue at https://github.com/alexras/lsmc/issues and attach an example .sav file that doesn't load (or, alternatively, just e-mail it to me at [email protected]) I'll take a look.

Will do!

I have el capitan as well and the LSMC.app runs fine, but when i open a sav file nothing happens...

This is the result i get from console log running both on osx or windows in VM:

179
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "event_handlers.pyc", line 21, in ok_handler
  File "/Volumes/MAC HD 2/Music Work 2016/LSMC.app/Contents/Resources/LSMC", line 73, in set_sav

EDIT2:

seems that one certain .sav files manage to load something in LSMC.app i am unable to really tell the difference between the sav files that do load and the ones that don't... the only important difference as far as im concerned is that the ones that do are not the ones that i want to use LSMC for.

Hoping there's an easy fix for this

Hey guys, i'm wondering if there's a way to extract instruments from an LSDJ song sav? i know that lsdj manager lets you work with individual songs from the sav file, but i'm wondering if you could extract instruments from a song?

Reason why i'm asking is coz i have a full cart with songs from my last couple of albums and now i have an arduinoboy and i dont want to remake all of the instruments again?

(i guess worst case scenario i could load into each song and use the instruments in there, but id rather just incorporate all of them (or most of them) into 1 single lsdj song so i could just use that live)

i never thought of using an rPi but reading this thread makes perfect sense! is it possible to hook up midi to the rpi/LGPT combo? i already have a PSP with LGPT but never felt really right so i never spent much time on it.

I have two EMSs and a DnD. No issues with any of them. although, the driverless DnD wins in my opinion. Those EMS drivers are a pain the butt-pit to get working right on windows 7 and probably 10 if there hasn't been new drivers by now that make that easier. are there android apps now that deal with EMS? I think I've heard about that???

Anyway. No drivers = amazing.

totally forgot about that until u mentioned it. at the time i had iphones now i have an android. def downloading it

Just to note, mGB will combine PU1, PU2, and WAV if you send MIDI on channel 5.

oh yeah i know, i was talking about LSDJ keyboard mode. (on the regular PS/2 keyboard, you could choose which PU channel you wanted to control PU1 or PU2 or PU1+PU2... i used to transpose one of them an octave lower (sometimes a fifth higher) and play them together... it sounded great... BUT it was definitely unstable to say the least... at least from my brief experimentation now with aboy lsdj keyboard, it's more stable (and i can use an actual keyboard/DAW to play lsdj. excellent!

Im aiming to have 3 Aboys with 3 GBs one with mGB (each channel separate) one to control poly for chords and one with lsdj to have awesome tables. + drum rack in ableton.

Another cool thing about aboy i only recently realized was the midi out can also be a midi thru. so no need for a midi splitter box.

i think lsdj keyboard is probably one of the best features! especially if you're as much of a fan of automation tables as i am (really what sets lsdj on a diff level from all other GB music roms.) glad i dont have to sacrifice the tables for midi... gonna have my cake and eat it too big_smile

Found this just moments ago, which i think is a very nice way to visualize the modes

Also, i dont think you actually need to add a note on the phrase, just making an empty phrase should be enough... i just managed to get it to function now. kindof a shame that there's no PU1+PU2 mode (as far as i can tell from Trash80's documentation).

You can use the maxpat with the FTDI cable too, if you have that connected.

i did not know that.... makes sense!
