SUPERBYTE: 13-14 September 2013, Manchester UK

Rewards include really cheap pre-ordering for Superbyte entry, t-shirts, exclusive album download, art prints by KeFF, even an LSDJ cart with tunes by Superbyte artists past and present!

Me and the Megabyte (Manchester) crew are putting on a two day chiptune (+ retro gaming/art) festival in Manchester, and we'd like your help in making it happen - it's not just a charity mugging though, there are some sweet incentives for you to pay, including t-shirts, art prints and even a LSDJ cart with Superbyte musicians' tunes on, so you can steal their tunes and become famous! (but don't do that plz)

People announced to perform already include:
Sabrepulse
gwEm
Mark 'TDK' Knight
Whitely
Skip Cloud
Mizkai

and visuals from LastKnight and hellocatfood!

Depending on how much you donate, some of the rewards include tickets to Superbyte, so if you're coming or wish to come, think of it as a pre-order that will massively help us out! So please, if you have any Christmas money, just won the lottery, ever enjoyed a ChipFest or CDKr Release, and want to help out, then please throw us some of your quids!

EDIT: There's a post on tumblr - http://calmdownkidder.tumblr.com/post/3 … 0078-super If you can't (or even if you can) donate, please help us out by reblogging this post and publicising this bad boy!

ITT - people being incredibly butthurt by a post zan-zan has made. Y'all kidding me, right?

End of the world? Quite possibly, as the brutal fury of Cerebral Scars’ headspace is revealed to the world once again, with four intense tracks that will blow minds and speaker systems simultaneously. Inspired by London and Newcastle (CS’s hometown), Northern Dancing Town is sure to ignite dancefloors all over the nation.

I noticed that, but didn't know it was bad for chiptunes! Thank you. I used Audacity and recorded from my game boy to my PC's soundcard directly (mic input). However, I think it's not a question of the way I recorded it. Those noises were there if I played directly with speakers, fom example.

Mic input is awful for recording non-mic stuff - you'd be better using your computer's line-in port (generally the light blue port). If your computer doesn't have this (laptop?) and you have no access to another computer with a better soundcard, then your other option is to buy a USB Soundcard.

Also, if you're serious about recording your music, it might be worth investing in getting someone to pro-sound mod the Game Boy - this creates a new output source, which tends to remove any hisses/bumps an old Game Boy may have gotten over its 23+ years of existence, and for recording it generally is a bit louder, and sounds nicer and cleaner.

ITT: People needing to check their privilege.

Callng the gAtari a stage prop

Also, LOL @ all the butthurt about stage props.
Trv chip-heads stand on stage with a laptop/Game Boy, slightly nodding their heads and generally being boring as fuck.

I enjoyed it.

So, I'm a bit of a muppet when it comes to all this, but is the TL;DR version "with little-scale's MIDI Mega Drive interface, and Aly James's VST thingyamabobberoo, we can have full control over the Mega Drive sound chips using our favourite VST-friendly DAW"?

1.  stop using so many pentatonic scales
2.  melody lead lines need to have rests so as not to fatigue the listener's attention.  quite often i hear songs where melody lines just go on forever, snaking every which way, with no pause.  the longer the melody line, the harder the brain to retain it in its entirety until an "end" is perceived - at which point it can then start to file and categorize it mentally.

that's is the extent of the highly biased and uninformed advice that i can give in this highly contentious thread

To add to this, I think one of the Anamanaguchi guys said they sang stupid nonsensical lyrics to come up with their melodies - I think it makes sense to think of your main melody as a "vocal line" if you will, and when you listen to songs with lyrics it's not someone 'go[ing] on forever, snaking every which way, with no pause'.
