Not to be all "me me me" but, open mics/one song aside, I always sync two gameboys live and only sync two game boys live. I could never not sync gameboys when live. How does anyone do it? I HAVE NO IDEA. HOW DO YOU KEEP TIME?? AHHH. (But yeah, it's mostly for smooth transitions and only sometimes for lotsa track madness.)

EDIT: Didn't realize PeeR's Dances was two gbs. That makes sense. I just thought he was using some voodoo magic.

multitrackers -  how do you deal with the noise floor buildup?

As has been mentioned before - use a noise reducer. Most modern DAWs have one built in but it's often not too precise. That being said, I've only used it when recording from non-prosounded GBC (big mistake) and on noise channels (which seem to be the noisiest between triggers unless you throw a Kxx in there).

Rawness is one of the reasons that using hardware one-ups software, imo. It gives a recording character as long as it doesn't upstage composition.

Agreed. I think it only makes sense to maintain the last envelope parameter - not dependent on notes alone - until a new one is set either by instrument or new Exx command. It's definitely given a bit more depth to LSDJ since the feature was added several versions ago.

CANT WAIT TO TRY THIS.

Hey guise, I have another question. Sorry hope it's not too annoying.

Is the F command supposed to make your instrument sound like crap? I mean is there supposed to be a click sound between each frame change? I get this on both my emulator and GBC. But I just heard a song where someone used i cool synth, and am now jealous. His song uses the frame changes without a loud clicking

Time the F commands up with the noise channel or other percussion (hh or snare or whatevs). It'll mask the clicks caused by the frame change.

That's what I did in this track at least - especially on the first wav lead and later solo. I think they are pretty smooth frame changes although I'm certain there are better examples out there.

I actually don't fully understand the changes created by the S command yet.

There's not much to know, tbh. Just know that S commands are additive in the sense that

S01
S00
S01
SFE

Will result, at the end, in only a one step change from the shape designated in the instrument screen. S00 does not return the shape to its original form in the way that a 00 in the TSP column would. Anyway, you've probably already figured this stuff out.

Oh, and prelisten is indeed awesome, right? Don't really know how I tracked for so long without it. It's like writing in the dark.

I think this one is down-to-back down-to-back P+P+P. If you do it in the air he like bursts into flames - ITS AWESOME.

P.S. WHAT HAPPENED HERE. Because I both like and fear it.

I table like this would definitely fuck shit up for your noise channel. Keep in mind the noise channel is a delicate flower. Combining transpositions with massive shape jumps like that and slapping a hop command on it all will spell disaster. Either nab a copy of 4.0.5 (although, and maybe this is just me, but I feel like I've had drop out issues with 4.0.5 as well) or pare down your noise channel tables.

Flyer is bonkers. Love it.

I'll either make bunch of crazy patches and then mold those into a track or I'll write a bunch of loops with simple wave forms and then embellish them with more interesting patches later. Either way, like trash can man said, use your tables. They are the only way your going to be able to get any texture in either of the pulse channels. Just throw commands all over the place and see what happens - vibrato, envelope, pulse width and hop are all your friend.

For the wav channel, just experiment. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

Seriously awersome lineup! Wish so badly I could go to this. Stupid other coast... Any chance there will be a live feed?

YESYESYES! Been waiting for this for a while. Absolutely love The Absent Flesh. Such great storytelling, depth, and warmth - not to mention sound design. Can't wait for a full length!

So many fantastic remixes on this. LISTEN TO IT NOW.
