it has a pocket gameboy screen

The most awesome part of this project. Is it just me, or does the pocket have a clearer screen?
Can you just switch them out, or is there some sort of modification involved?
I gotta find a pocket to kill. >:)

i am feeling very inspired now, and that is a very good idea about limiting the order, i think i will do that to start off and see how much i can cope smile

the best system is probably making then selling.
so there's no backlog. but you can also take custom
orders. just dont let them pay until your read to actually
build the device.

as far a mods go...
i want a 9v battery mod like gijs gieskes.
pitch dial, underclock, bi-verted backlight,
and the prosound all in one.

thats a good idea, i might make some basic mods with the option to upgrade or something. i have already made a stack of backlit LCD boards to save me time.

that mod list you discribed sounds easy enough, except the 9v thing isn't such a good idea, to make 9v work you have to step it back down to 5 which defeats the point of having 9. also 9 volts has more volts but less current, because the current is divided by the 6 cells instead of the 4 AA cells, so it would actually wouldn't last as long. a good powerful Lithium Ion battery from a radio controlled car at 6 volts would be best, and all it would take is a diode to make it charge of the original power socket.

yeah, tbh id buy one like the one pictured (no heart though, maybe a skull instead & in red...and red buttons instead)..looks sweet, and also excessive at the same time, so its up my alley

ha that sounds cool!

well i should post up my blackboy, no skulls but nice red buttons that go well with the red text and a red backlight, nothing really special tho, its got a pitch bend kit, pro sound, button breakout socket.

thing is, this one i have done was kinda easy, the hard parts are the heart and the pocket screen, so if people are happy with just normal lights, and a normal screen then making something like this wouldn't be too hard at all... note to self, buy a new dremal!

And if you do set up a shop, set a limit of 5 orders or something, so you don't get bombarded all at once!

thanks everyone,

i want to open up an online custom gameboy shop, so i would love to hear your opinions on that,

would people buy this stuff? not exactly this, this is pushing the limits, there is no space left at all! but one or two mods per gameboy or something?

or is it better me desigining them myself and just throw them on ebay?

i love doing this, but i am out of work (hense the free time to do this) and i need cash bad.... tho this one is mine! lol

Cool, I'll check it out.

That's how my second cart was sent to me and I too think it looks better (except it has boring yellow LEDs).

ah fair enough, i had green and red on the white cart and yellow and red on the black cart. bit of soldering later they look much better.

Whoops. I'll look for that email now.
I made a arduino inside a gb as well, though at the time of it's creation I used a expensive arduino nano. if I was to do it now I would use the arduino pro mini from sparkfun.

for the midi jack I used a 1/8th in stereo jack with a custom cable. (1/8" to din)

Nice work! smile

awesome!

actually it was seeing your idea of the arduino in the gameboy that inspired me, i don't like the idea of an extra thing to carry around.

i used a Arduino nano too, from ebay, its down the left side and the regulator has been cut down and moved to the right side.

but i put an order in after the arduinoboy was working for some of those Pro mini arduinos with a usb attachment as well, so looking forward to playing with that,

by the way Trash, i was looking through your code because obviously i have edited a bit, and WOW it is a work of art! and the programming notes helped alot! so thanks for that!

everyone else, thanks for your kind comments, its what keeps me doing what i do!

They flicker on and then off once when I hook the cart up to the USB port but that's it.

By "all the time" do you mean even when not in use? Well, I guess not looking at your pictures.

I'd be interested in this little mod if you could provide a few details.

all the time as in when they have power, either from a gameboy or usb

here is the info:

11th post down,

but be warned, this is not reversable as far as i can find, the lights are on and stuck like that no matter how many times you flash it or take the battery out etc, so only do it if you are 100% sure you want both lights on.

i think it looks cool tho, because it makes it more obvious that there is something very special with your cart.

hi all,

(first of all thanks very much to Trash80 for making the arduinoboy possible, it is awesome! now if only he'd answer my email lol)

this is my latest gameboy, it is a clearboy with the text removed and painted white on the inside.

it has a pocket gameboy screen, which is backlit with a white nonfinite backlight and bi inverted using bibbin/nitro's hex inverting idea

the gamboy has a built in arduino mini, and a midi socket on the side, there is also a mini usb socket at the bottom for updating the firmware.

the code on the arduino (orignally by Trash80) has been modded slightly to change the light patterns and also add sound for when the arduino boots up and changes mode.

in the middle there is a heart made of LEDs this shows the modes and flashes to show the BPM

grey boy, pro sound internally, yellow backlight, how does that sound?

or maybe i can make something that looks a little more interesting with some play it loud shells, but it wouldn't be all one colour

thanks guys! only wish there were drag and drop carts now

here are my usb carts, i have modded them with new cases and replaced the LEDs on some of them as well as modding them so that both LEDs are on all the time.

the red and blue are LSDJ, the white is MGB and the black is Shitwave

what do you think?
