Unless you clean the potentiometer, you can get some unpleasant crackles as well from turning it.  Pre-pot all the way!

Bummer. I think there is room for both your tracker and shirus tracker, but ill respect your decision.

Agreed.  This still would be a much more convenient way of doing music for things like Wonderswan and other obscurities.

I actually think it's pretty cool.  While you can do the same thing in another form factor, it's all part of performance, and I like to jazz around.  CDM did a write up about it a while ago.  It seems pretty effective too, great tune he gets going, and the transfer of the kinesthetic to the musical aspect is awesome.

Really cool!  I could probably learn something from opening those up.

Amazing!  A great introduction to show friends who are uninitiated with our aesthetic.

Toshiba Satellite's are a very good laptop at an okay price.

AFAIK it is just used for filtering.  So I might be wrong but whenever there is an instance of filtering in anything on the C64 if you pump audio through that it will be filtered.  Lots of people do it wither their MSSIAH setups and stuff.

Replacing caps on these systems is always a good idea.  I'd buy a kit.  In fact I'd appreciate more for various systems, i.e. I know of a people selling kits for Atari ST and Amiga but not much else.  Maybe a cap value database would be a good idea?  I recorded the values from some of my Genesis's.

Guess who failed too? haha,  I got too frustrated and ended up swiping off the resistors and just trying to solder on the pads... which I couldn't do.  So aside from missing those resistors my mobo is okay.  I don't know,  I might try working on it later.  Too small!

I've been getting more and more interested in FM too.  It is one of the most fascinating sounds I think.  (Look for a ravin' FM DJ mix this summer wink )

I have a clear pink GBA kicking around.  If I have any time outside of finals this week I could solder that up.  Don't have any 2.x to give good sound comparisons though.  If there is interest I could take pics and make a mini tut-ish.
