Let me get my money in order and I want both possibly I want the yellow for sure but I want more pics of the other. You won't need to buy a new screen. But I'm in the US and I am willing to pay shipping. If you can hold then I'd greatly appreciate it. More pics of the calico boy though if you will please?

@kitsch that was very useful info actually. I knew the hotter the better but I didn't think bowling would work. Has anyone actually tried dying a clear boy black yet and actually gotten black and not a weird copper brown. Also is there a way to "un dye" a gameboy once it's been dyed? I dyed one and it's horrible how it came out. Any one know any fixes?

Hmm, I haven't tried it yet but I read up on Rit dye a couple days ago and all that was said for the mixture was the dye and hot water. What exactly is the acetone for?

From my understanding of it, there's a very thin clear coat on DMGs and the acetone softens it up and allows the dye to actually take hold to the plastic. Something around those lines.

Did you put the lettering on before you dyed the case?

After, The dying process probably would have removed the decal.

That's true didn't think of that. Sooo Uhmm, what would it cost to get you to do a case like your orange one? Or to get your recipe you use to dye it.

The issue with the clear outline. Couldn't you just use a crafting knife after you lay it down to cut very carefully around the lettering as to get rid of clear blocky out line? Then maybe run a clear coat of spray paint over it so it's actually painted into the gameboy and not just a sticker or series of small sticker that can peel off over time

That's exactly what I had done, but there will always be an outline.

Did you put the lettering on before you dyed the case?

I've done it with decals, but you get a faint clear outline.

Actually i have a question about this. The issue with the clear outline. Couldn't you just use a crafting knife after you lay it down to cut very carefully around the lettering as to get rid of clear blocky out line? Then maybe run a clear coat of spray paint over it so it's actually painted into the gameboy and not just a sticker or series of small sticker that can peel off over time? Seems logical to do this on a clear boy, maybe not any other DMG model though if you like to keep the texture of the gameboy in tact. But if you are going to custom paint the whole case anyway I'd suggest a clear coat just to help prevent scratching and paint peeling or chipping issues. So maybe it'd work on both clear and normal DMGs depending on what look and feel you are going for.

Yes I hand paint all my gameboys. Even the lettering. The lettering on my Harley Quinn gameboy. It is extremely difficult and takes a load of patience but its worth it in my opinion. Decals are cool and stuff but as an artist I see it as an easy way out. You do get a very clean look from decals though. I say go with what you're comfortable with man. And yes it's Testors, they make some really nice decal sheets you can grab at any hobby store. Or we can talk and I'll hook you up with a good deal. Either way you go, good luck and can't wait to see what you paint. @Apeshit That dyed boy still blows my mind. I want a case that color its freaking epic!

Eh my assistant manager is allowing me too. I'm not 100% sure that we are breaking any store policies but he's pretty familiar with it and he's letting me. So we will see how it goes. We will probably just get a slap on our hand from the store manager. But as I said I plan on going over their heads to corporate at some point.

What I mean by risking a lot. Is we actually are suppose to be tuned into our corporate radio station. I'm actually unhooking it and playing this stuff. My assistant manager is cool with it. However if my manager finds out we could get in big trouble. We are going to do it for awhile and then in time ask my store manager about it and by what he says talk to our district manager. Hell I might even just jump all of them and go straight to the top to corporate office. We actually have a thing with Spencer's that if you are in a band or are a musician and work for Spencer's you can send your music to corporate and ask them to play it on the stores radio which broadcasts to all stores world wide. Basically I got the idea of doing that with my band and though he'll why not do it for all of us. Yea you guys aren't employees of Spencer's but if I show them that so many people in our community are willing to have our music played for free they will do it. Even more so after they see how the customers are reacting to it.

Also what's cool about chiptunes and yes thats the basic genre name but we can do anything with it. Rock, metal, techno, dance, trance.. Etc. So many sounds can come from us so playing an hour of it straight would be reasonable in my opinion hell I'd be happy if they give us 30minutes. Anything is something.

1. that is superbly awesome! hope it's a lot of fun for you guys smile thank you!

and 2. Vex, you would have peed in your paints? Well that's counter productive...you'd need new paint!

I'd need new paint? Are you implying my penis is painted on? I am highly offended by this assumption. That little thing I have in there is real, I guarantee it sir!

Man, awesome!

My stuff is at chippanze.org. I dunno about the other guys, but I'm almost sure they wouldn't mind.

Sweet, yea I'm sure no one will mind but just in case I'm only going to play music from people that say its okay incase i play someones music that does care and finds out some how and tries to sue me or Spencer's. I could lose my job not to mention everything I own, because Spencer's could turn around and sue me for getting them sued lol. I'm actually risking a bit to do this but for the sake of the art I say it's worth it, but I am going to cover my ass on as much as possible.

Holy crap! If they came and asked me for that honor I would've peed in my paints lol. This is amazing man. The fact that it's being recognized in the Smithsonian is a huge deal. And chipmusic actually being played on the steps of the Smithsonian is mind blowing. This may be the beginning of chipmusic actually gaining a lot of respect and help people understand what it really is.

this is a good idea though.  the risk you run is that you'll grow to despise the songs if you have to hear them repeatedly during your work hours tongue

This must be an old policy or a newish one. Lol my fiancé also assistant managed at a Spencers and just left about 8 months ago and was there for about 2 years. They always played their own music off their mp3 players and such. We actually have a corporate radio too which we are actually suppose to be tuned into. This is only going to be happening at my store for now til we talk to our district manager. When it gets to that time they will probably have to talk to you guys personally but that will come up when it gets to that point, IF it gets to that point. It might not but we can hope right?

I'll check on this in a bit, I'm just waking up. Excited to see that sooooo many people are into the idea. Freaking amazing guys!
