Oh, it's just about FM?  I had hoped it was about using the software.

I'm extremely intrigued by this show...  Are there any slots still open?

The concept of "chiptunes [that] are fake" is a fallacy.  The demo and chipmusic scene was started by using SID samples on an Amiga, so to claim they are any more or less "real" really belittles the hard work they put into it.  Mayhaps "sample based" or something to that degree.

I'd also remove mentions of "8 bit soundchips" since Sega Genesis is very 16-bit and GBA is also used (more so in the future with the advent of M4G) which is 32 bit.  It's really extraneous to even bother with the "8 bit" moniker anyways.

A section on the different types of synthesis involved may be nice.  Just a short blurb describing different chips have different capabilities and what they have.  Subtractive synthesis, FM, AM, additive, what have you.

I also feel it may be nice if you had sound samples from all soundchips you have listed.  Just the same song recorded on all of them and/or a very simple samples to show what they each sound like.  There's no mention of PCEngine which, while not as popular, is still rather sexy and could see more popularity if MML catches on.  It may be prudent to mention some popular interfaces on there such as trackers, MML, and VSTs.

There's VERY little mention of the SMS or Genesis/SMD.  You have a comparison of the different parts of it, but no explanation of the comparisons existence.  Finally, the Ricoh 2A03 is NOT a soundchip, it is, in fact, a CPU based on the MOS Technologies 6502 with some added capabilities.

Generally, not bad, but there are some glaring issues and omissions here that really need some fixing.

PS: You forgot MOS 6582. tongue

Just wanted to double check that you received my entry, TheFly!  Please let me know! ^_^

XPMCK is NEVER a "last resort!!!!"

MML.  XPMCK supports SMS in its entirety.

The official firmware is awesome!  It just so happens that AKAIO is better.  Has more features, is updated more often, supports plugins.  There's really no reason to even bother with the original FW because AKAIO is so awesome and easy to install.

They are a little more expensive than DealExtreme was, but they have them!

Sure CycloDS carts are the best if you feel like paying 5 times the normal amount of cash for a cart whose supporting team has been almost completely inactive for the last year, lacks any features to set it aside from the crowd or was actually update-able and usable with the DSi (like the AK2i is).  There is literally nothing there to justify the Cyclos ridiculous price point.

Get an AceKard 2.1 or 2i.  Don't settle for anything less.  They can be had for about $12 BRAND NEW.

Kitsch has got it!  Sorry iseedeadpixels!

PS: Is $70 a good price for one of these?  Like I said, I really do not have a clue! XD

Currently Kitsch has staked a claim on it (PMing me 2 minutes before your post XD ), but I'm awaiting a response from him after sending him my last message.  Are you actually interested in buying it, iseedeadpixels???

I should clarify: This is $70 PLUS Shipping.

Now if only I could afford to go to PAX. =[

Don't miss your one and only chance to own a brutal piece of chipmusic history!  This DMG was used by the one and only, the legendary, the brutal, Heosphoros!  Not only do you get a black modded DMG (the classiest of the colors), but it is emblazoned with his signature and logo in glorious white which a special message for us all to live our lives by underneath the battery cover.  The modification was done by Low-Gain, so you know you are getting a truly high-quality product.

I've come on some very hard times and have to sell this (as well as most of my synthesizers) in order to keep from drowning in debt.  I'm not 100% on how much I want to sell it for, but let me break it down a little.

It is a black DMG, if I were to sell my other (unmodified) black DMG to Nonfinite, I could get $27.50 for it.
It is Prosound modded already. Nonfinite's DIY Prosound kit is $40 and you have to do the work yourself.  Not only that, but you know you're getting quality work here.
It is signed by the bearer of light, Heosphoros.
It is in very nice condition (it even includes the battery cover).

So, Nonfinite's kit is $40 and it comes with a stock DMG (which would fetch $10 from Nonfinite as opposed to the $27.50 for a Black DMG).  So that puts the price at around $57.50 without labor and the amount of win involved in owning this.  I really need the money and, judging by market prices in general, I'd say about $70 is fair.  If anyone disagrees, please feel free to make an offer and I will absolutely consider it.  As I said, I have absolutely no intention of ripping any one off and just want to make sure I am getting a fair price out of this considering how much trouble I am currently in.  If more than one person is interested in this, I will entertain offers from both parties until an agreement is made.

Keep in mind, I could throw this on ebay and get some ludicrously inflated price by preying on peoples' ignorance, but I'd rather be completely transparent and sell it to people who will actually use it.  Again, if you disagree with my pricing, you are free to say so as long as this doesn't turn into one of "those" sale threads.

Thank you for reading!  I hope someone finds this interesting!  Pictures follow.

also listening very closely to 70s progressive rock over and over again until their ideas replaced the ones i accidentally learned from there being too much britpop and trance on the radio

It almost bothers me how similar this is to mine.  Just add a few years of guitar, some dabbling in a plethora of other instruments and replace "britpop" and "trance" with showtunes and American pop.
