Whoah! I found the original thread!
I know a few people were looking for the YM_MINI Synths I did, and I thought I ran out last year. Turns out I found seven kits in a badly marked box from when I moved!

There here: http://www.straytechnologies.com/produc … izer-kits/.

Here's the original demo vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbTZQ5kNF-c

You'll need an AY or YM chip. There's a bunch on eBay and Andy's Arcade has the AY's if you're in Europe:

I'll do another "give-back" discount for the Chipmusic.org members, since you always support my crazy projects and VJing:    $10 off for the full-built or $5 off on the kit, if you PM me or email me directly here.

First run sold out and will ship on Monday. I'll do 12 more in a couple weeks when parts come in again.

Thanks everyone for helping me raise funds for the next synth project! I'll keep you posted when it comes to life.

My PM box seems to be working, but email's easier:
wil [at]  straytechnologies [dot] com
is my primary.

Folks on a game console collector forum I visit use these:
http://www.ambery.com/nttopalvisyc.html
and they're cheaper on eBay and other places.

Obviously I've not tested it, but it's known to work on old consoles.

Sadly PAL is not a trivial code change for video programmers. We literally have to time every line of pixels against a master frequency, and squeeze the rest of the program in between the lines. (that space is called a "VBLANK" in coding by-the-way!).

As the timing is different for NTSC, PAL and SECAM, that means a microsecond will destroy alignment, color or sometime not even show a picture at all.
Note the dents in my forehead next time you see me at a show.

This usually means someone reported a post as infringing. (take down first, care later). Usually the email you got has a reporting body or post listed first, and you're supposed to deal with them. If not, it might be your "name" that was reported as infringing. If you answer contact them with an "abuse of DMCA" you may get a slightly less slow auto reinstating of your page.
Alternatively, You could 4chan or Reddit that crap.

Will this be limited run?

This kit is actually a modification of the MIDIo kit that converts midi to ANSI art characters. As it's a hardware mod, I won't sell the kit version, and I'm really just using it to raise money to develop the next kit.

So, the hardware will not be a limited run, but this particular modification and software combo will be less than 20 units total including customs. Obviously, anyone getting custom logos will have a unique version. I usually change-up the audio processing algorithms on those a bit to fit the artwork, and no artwork has been re-used.

Blog link Fixed... Thanks!

Hey all,
I've been socked with a new project building machines to listen to ghosts (honest!), and after doing a couple vj sets in San Juan at the end of May, I decided I should code up another Pocket VBLANK (the M1) for those who'd like one of my sets with out the leering and beer drinking that comes with it.

The new circuit is based on glitching of a circa 1977 : RCA studio II/Cosmac emulation I' wrote exclusively for doing chip visuals last year. It's half the size of the old one, uses panel mount audio and power (so you easily can mount this one in a cassette case or game cartridge or something), and has about 18x the material as the last one. I also figured out 2 internal video channels at once, though one is used up for the glitching most of the time.

Here's a demo: http://youtu.be/E1XsLRrQc3Y

And the blog for it: http://www.straytechnologies.com/a-new- … se-the-m1/

The initial fundraising set has sold out. There will be 12 more of these available after the end of June for $80. I can code a custom logo to be glitched into the mix for $15 extra.

And thanks to F0XYr4bB!T for letting me use the awesome tune: Nostalgic sex. I coded a lot to this one!

Bliptronome pulled.. Retired to the great eBay:

Check the first post...Built Bliptronome is still available. Anyone make me an offer..
before it goes to epay.

make me an offer!

Hey all, Since I'm doing visuals at this months 8Static (yeah... THIS Saturday... get your butt to Philly!),
I thought I'd show-off a new release.

VidByter demo Video

This is a live camera being fed through serial to my new MIDIo firmware: "VidByter."
It crunches video down to 255 bytes per frame and drops it into the video ram of my hardware based
RCA "Pixie" emulator (circa 1977). Yeah... a whopping 3.5 frames per second. sweeee!

I'll be using it on Saturday mixed into my set from a wireless camera on stage. The firmware will be available at http://www.straytechnologies.com around the first week of January. It'll either come with a MIDIo kit, or be a $12 swappable upgrade for those folks already messing with the ANSI MIDIo.

I'd also love to see a mode that operates the same as the original pocket vblank, just with MIDI as the incoming source instead of audio....

Already in there! There's a visualizer mode that can just blow midi characters on the screen in real time with optional mirroring effects controlled by CCs.

An ansi -> midi tool is possible and probably easily written in processing or some such language, but it's not a perfect correlation. I had to squeeze out some of the less used characters and marry the foreground/background palettes, as ANSI is a larger data set than midi. The way I set it up, you'll pretty quickly memorize the character sets which makes drawing on the fly a bit less about translation & more about drawing.

I draw my design on graph paper, and just type the midi into a tracker line by line, like reading a book.

lol bleo!
Yeah, the "Ansi Midio" demo on youtube that rolls in a few seconds took me about 3 hours from drawing to midi. That's why I don't have dozens of videos up yet. But man, you feel good when it's done.
I have a "laptop free" module prototype running pretty well now, should be out in October & the current firmware works with it. (I use a Yamaha QY, but any midi source works except those crappy midiman plastic controllers)  Next firmware is a PC "speaker synth" & LOGO visuals synth on the board right now.
(turtle down, left 40....... spirograph style vector graphics). Can't wait to see what you do with the ANSI!
