WHAT HAPPENED? things got all weird, the dots are all in a row, and things look generally greyer...
I usually can't stand a popup music player, usually because if i just want to listen to one thing i forget that it's open when it's done, or if i want to listen to multiple things it just doesn't work out nicely...
A persistent thing could be cool, except it would probably get tripped up by using multiple tabs, though i'm not really an expert on this stuff.
For me I know just having the music i'm listening to open in one tab and doing my browsing in other tabs is easier and neater.
What would be nice as just a little addon, would maybe be the addition of a kind of "play all" button for the music shown on the homepage. So if it's always 4 columns that would make that a bit easier i guess, if not though, I guess you could just have it run through whatever the ranking is. I don't know I haven't really thought this idea out yet, but like a button that lets you listen to all the things on the front page. that would be cool.
oh also also, maybe to differentiate the icons for forum and home maybe make the forum icon like horizontal lines, as that's kind of how the page is organized
omg I want dis. also I thought that said "HEAPS UP" and I thought it was fitting, but now I am disappointed.
Its a automated rating system that has no affiliation to popularity, rating from 0 to 9, also it's a fancy icon.
trash80 has written a program that listens to and rates music based on its own thoroughly vetted automated taste. It then assigns a rating from 0-9 based on how objectively good that song is. You can see that most songs have 0s because chiptune sucks. However, some people can make objectively perfect music, somehow.

Also I've noticed that when I command+click on a song to open it in a new tab, if it's on the song's square but not on the title it will just open it in the same tab, and if it's on the song's title it will both open the song in the current tab as well as in a new tab. I think there may be some redundant, but disobedient hyperlinking...
A couple of nitpicks:
It would be nice to have a "Forums" page that would essentially be what the old homepage was. I like the new homepage for a quick digest of things, but if I want to post a new topic seeing just the forum sections would be a bit more useful.
Also I noticed in the music section the PM button is different from in the forums, and I don't know if it was intentional, but I don't like it.
Also, I'm not sure if this would actually look good, but it might look just a bit cleaner to give the recent topics a bit less space, and the forum titles a bit more.
Asked one on a serious note, apparently in the first few lines to answer questions, anything to keep people from asking me this question the potential is a good thing Jansport Backpacks , well people..

Also, the Recent button was the one I used most often. I like that you made it into home- just a thought, would it be possible to declutter the front page a bit by making a Forums button that has a drop down? Likewise, you could make the Music button drop down the filter options.
Ignore this if that is a horrible design idea, because I have no idea how to create good GUIs
Oh oh, I don't know how difficult it would be but maybe if it was like a tabbed design of sorts, between forums, music and like.... recent posts? I don't know. Something like that maybe though.
Also +1 for bringing back the recent posts button.
Oh one other thing is that on my homepage the "New Posts" button gets slightly cut off at the bottom. Don't know if anyone else has this issue.

everyone has been making good points, that you don't need hardware. but just saying, from personal experience, I know it has been easier for me to get comfortable making music in a dedicated environment (hardware that doesn't have the internet and a bunch of other shit). Definitely experiment with other programs, I know I started with LSDJ, but it's not really for me I don't think. Check out the other software, and even non chip software, because I know that while trackers are great, it does not work for the way I think most of the time.
