Chip music like punk offers the chance to express musical ideas without very much time invested in ability.

I think this hits the nail on the head.  You have a lot of cases where people go to a chip show and are inspired enough to get into it themselves, and the barrier is pretty low.  You get a lot of scrappy expression that way, which may contribute to the punkiness you're referring to.

How do you get around the button combos on retroarch pulling up menus?

Really enjoying it!  I'm probably misunderstanding things here, but since it has 3 channels on the cart, would it ever be possible to also use the gameboys native channels as well?

Ahh man, I don't have an android phone.  Was pretty stoked for this.

The third is definitely my favorite.  It reminds me of Super Castlevania.  You may want to try varying up your instruments up a bit with some echos and legato.  The timing seems a little robotic, but if it's for a soundtrack, that can work.

Ordered.  Seems like a lot of fun.

Thinking about picking one up, but not really sure about that keyboard.

The GB boys are nice, but they have a loud high pitched whine that you have to do some soldering to reduce.  I've also noticed that the buttons and D-pad squeak pretty loudly when using them because of the way the plastic rubs up against the shell.  It would be nice to have some silicone buttons for these.

Been thinking of doing this for years.  I'd imagine the medium would muffle the sounds a bit in a good way.  I really like how distant the original Terminator soundtrack sounded, and that's what I would have tried to get for from this.
