yes, I am using the mic jack on my Mac (It's stereo in). I fiddle with the EQ knobs on my hardware mixer till I get what I like. I figured out how to get the levels on the recording software (Audio Hijack Pro) just right so that I'm not hitting the cut off. I usually get the levels around center of the meter so that only the snares and kicks are just touching the yellow range. As for audio interface, would one of these work? I really don't wanna spend too much money.

I had a hunch that I wasn't equalizing correctly, although I have no idea how to do compression; looks like I have a fun project this weekend. I'm gonna be honest, my ears aren't the best, what is the general rule of thumb when equalizing and compressing?

Reply to part one; USB is almost automatically better than the sound card. The data transfers faster, allowing for higher quality. You could probably do better, but even that should be better than this.

Part two; I'm probably about as lost as you are.

heh

You have no idea how lucky you are to be able to take that lightly.

You guys are lucky. You have chip scenes AND normal music scenes. In my small town, unless you want to play metal, you practically have to violate people to get them to listen to anything local, let alone something as Avante-Garde as chiptune.

I am going to aim for all ages, at the very least a 16+ show.

Good, good, good. smile

do you use only the computer?  If you have some outboard gear maybe hook something up to your aux sends on your mixer, maybe a pedal or fx processor?

Yeah, basically. I use FamiTracker, Sunvox, and Hammerhead. Sometimes all three at once, but I can't figure out how to syncronize them manually. I have a distortion pedal, and that's about it.

To all others: I've been paying attention, and appreciating a lot of the ideas, but I'm much too lazy to reply to all of them. xD Thanks for the help!

Could always make a series of 'new' chains of the song that is totally rewritten or has some samples in it, that you use when playing live?

(That's what I do when I want to edit some of my pre-existing tracks)

I think he meant to put it in my topic. Glad I saw it anyway. smile

Sending my cover of Riu Riu Chiu (Old Renaissance Spanish Hymn) right now. Literally.

Edit: Sent.

I don't think I could do it, since I'm still bound by a high school schedule, and I still don't have the live thing figured out. I'd love to hear it if it works out. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

You're my new favorite! This is so cool to hear these time signatures being used so well, in any genre... and you put it into Chiptune! You made my day. I hope to be back to buy. big_smile

I was messing around with Trippy-H the other day, and thinking 5 and 6 would be good for transitions. Thanks for the idea on #3!
And, really, I just wanna play my bass... Haha...

I use Trippy H or Digitech Whammy to manipulate and add to the mix.
You could try adding some keys.

Could you elaborate on how you use Trippy-H? Is it mostly for sound effects?
As for adding keys, I'm pretty set on the idea of adding bass. FamiTracker just doesn't have enough low end for me, and my keyboard doesn't really have any good synth bass sounds... stupid Yamaha...

JDDJ3J has used this to great effect.

That's the dumbest and most simultaneously awesome thing I've ever seen. xD

when it's all based on PC trackers? Everything I've made so far has either used FamiTracker, SunVox, or  both (plus Hammerhead for drums...)

I feel like standing behind a laptop and hitting play would be a joke... I'm probably going to add some stuff from Trippy-H and some electic bass to my tracks, but I still feel like pressing play on the trackers isn't right... What options do I have?

*I hope this post doesn't make me sound like an idiot.
