Honestly this really is not the forum to ask these questions. I'm sure a few here are into modular or about to get into modular, but the forum that has the experience to answer these questions is Muffwiggler.com

I recently just posted a thread there where I chronologically go through my expansion into modular. Great people and all kinds of information there too. A word of caution though, do some reading. Plenty of newb threads there with the basic info you are looking for.
Thank you for the order. I apologize for the shipping, it seems rates are always going up.
It will be going out today.
I don't know about a second run yet. I would need to consult Neil, but I'm sure we can work something out when you are ready.
As far as donors I use Nobunaga's Ambition which I usually purchase off of eBay when they come up. I then desolder the PRG prom and the two 8K SRAM chips. Then I desolder the CIC chip and cut the necessary traces. I then solder in the 256K SRAM chip as well as the hex inverter ic and the Ciclone chip. Solder in the jumper wires and test. Then desolder the old battery and add the two battery holders. Then clean up an old grey shell by running it through the dishwasher, custom cut the vinyl label and do final testing to make sure the cart works flawlessly and that the battery is saving properly. I dare not calculate the time put into these. Again I really would like more people to try Neil's software. I love PR8 and Pulsar. I think they are gems that have been undiscovered by most. Seems Gameboy always gets the action around here, but PR8 and Pulsar really deserves more attention.
Oops I forgot about Genghis Khan and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Great post katsumbhong.
Congrats you are going to receive serial #1. (The one pictured)
Will ship in the next two days. I am about to release this worldwide on matrixsynth.com.
I figured I would give you guys first crack at these.
Jazzmarazz is right. I personally use CopyNES to save .sav files. The real purpose of these carts is to introduce more people into using the NES as a synth/sound machine. Making it easy to just insert cart and have fun. Without having to understand memory mappers and CIC chips etc. Not taking anything from others who have done an amazing job adding USB and easy methods to 'make' carts as well as designing ingenious copy protection work arounds. Many musicians are still unaware of how powerful some of these programs really are. I'm hoping to change that, even if it is just a few people at a time:)
Neil Baldwin has authorized a limited run of carts of PR8 and Pulsar. There will only be 6 of each title available and will be uniquely serial numbered . Please don’t miss this opportunity to try out his amazing musical titles for the NES!
You can get more information about Neil and his awesome software at his site here: http://www.nes-audio.com/ A donation will be made for each cart purchased to the ‘Just Giving’ charity under his name, located here: http://www.justgiving.com/Neil-Baldwin
These have Ciclone chips, so they will work in any NES worldwide.

GBC' are the only way to go, I will leave it at that. I consider it my secret weapon. Especially when pushing modulation at high speeds!
Curious to how Kitsch has handled this problem. Custom software I suspect.
Oh and as to your previous comment about form factor. I too once was going to build a eurorack version. But I still wanted to have my Gameboy portable. Now I have the best of both worlds. Take a GB with me and jam on it with LSDJ and then come home swap carts and make crazy beep boop noises with my eurorack. Dual purpose makes it more useful for me personally anyway. Amping up the levels is a snap with a module from Circuit Abbey called Gozinta. I find it very useful and can adjust levels on the fly. Plus I find I have to have these modules for other video game console stuff I run through my euro because all of it runs at line level and all of it needs to be bumped up in level.
My rack is ready and waiting!
Why is this starting to feel like another midines story?
If you are serious about noise, you need to consider a better option than your standard top loader. low_budget has reworked the original pcb and redesigned it for much better noise separation. Here is the link to the forum post with more info:

8-project/
The other benefit low_budget tackled was making it easier to use native RGB PPU chips. Overall you get pristine video and pristine audio (all three channels)
I have worked with Nick and helped him with his Polycase cases. I can personally attest to the amount of work he has put into this project. He has models available for people who are serious about overcoming the issues the original NES has. Of course all components have been replaced other than the original PPU and CPU chips. Extreme maybe, but very thorough
Here is an example:
You probably are not going to find people here that would have kits or even finished units.
I would try www.muffwiggler.com.
You will need to sign up for an account to see their Sell/Trade forum, but I have seen them there regularly.

I don't blame them!
Guess I could rub a couple of nickels together and place a bid!
