I always remember that one insane c64 demo that pushed it so far it didn't even sound like a SID any more, it sounded more like a sampler (can't remember what it was called). It pushed it so far that people who liked SID music basically passed it over because, despite being legit on the hardware, it didn't meet their expectations.

Can't complain about the scene in Rotterdam. And the scene in Holland is also pretty good!
I'm going to be spending a lot of time in rotterdam in the near future, have been already the last few months. Any recommendations?

Re: A Chiptune Reddit+Last.FM Type Website (16 replies, posted in General Discussion)
If you had enough content, I think a chip oriented last.fm esq. website would be pretty cool. Turn on the radio and choose some tags to listen to, then refine it through peoples use so it can automatically help you find new music you'd like based on your activity.
It'd need to be more Last.fm and less reddit (/r/chiptunes is awful and badly moderated), but preferably with a more user friendly interface.

Re: Is it possible to replicate the DMG-01 sound through a computer? (12 replies, posted in Audio Production)
What you're asking doesn't actually make any sense.
You could run a Linux GB emulator on a Pi and run LSDJ on that. But you can't use a real gameboy as "a speaker". The sound of a gameboy is produced in the hardware itself, not in some filtering the hardware provides. Even if you were to cut out the speaker from inside a gameboy and wire it up in such a way that the Pi's sound went through it, all you'd have is the sound of a Pi going through a shitty speaker. I've never known a serious gameboy musician to use the inbuilt speaker anyway.
Either just get an EMS cart and run it on a gameboy or just run it on an emulator.

my cat makes better songs by accident when he steps on my keyboard...
To be fair though, the way the gun moves with the menu selection is kind of neat.

Also how about Animal Crossing, every KK track that he performs live for you is a weird combination of guitar and weird speech synthesis that is supposed to represent his singing & whistling. And then he gives you tapes and you go and play them in your house and it's a completely different arrangement with cheesy muzak instruments. Whoever came up with this is a genius.
I Ioved how every music player had a different sound font for the songs.

Start small..There's no point in being fully kitted out with a ridiculous rig if you don't really know how to use any of it. Learning to get the most out of LSDJ takes as much time as learning any instrument.
You're better of holding onto that money and making a sound investment in a piece of equipment you find yourself to be lacking later on when you've got some perspective on what your music is and where you want it to go.

I'm a huge Harvest Moon fan, and there's this one bum note on the SNES version of the game in the Town Theme that makes me cringe every time.
I find it kind of fascinating because I always wonder how something like that would slip in and be overlooked.
It's about 43 seconds in.

Re: Virtual Boy Music? (32 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)
I used to work for the big N, and I can tell you this: There is Virtual Boy hardware with video out in existence. I've seen it in action personally. We used to use it when we needed to capture VB screenshots. It's probably sitting in a back room somewhere collecting dust. But there have to be more out there somewhere. Or, maybe there's a way to modify a retail VB to achieve this.
Personally, I would be actually be more interested in writing music on the Virtual Boy, using LSDJ-like software. Staring in to a VB is not as bad as people make it out to be. You just need to take a break about every ten minutes
Are you someone's uncle per-chance?
Joking aside, there are forums where people who collect Dev-kits and the like. Someone on one of these forums almost certainly has one of these.
