Searching "chipmusic" has worked for a while. I don't know if groups were created because they don't really behave as I would like.

You would think so, but just for me, it's a mixed bag. I have found two interesting groups, "chipmusic" and "8-bit/Chiptune dumphole."

Yeah pretty much. But it wouldn't have to be limited to just this site, it could collect from a few sources. Tagging wouldn't be a bad way to do it either though. Just a way to find cmo type music on soundcloud would be cool.

Cool I thought I remembered a thread about it. Well maybe we could use a certain tag or something. Like MyFirstLSDJj. :3 Or someone could make a web app. Eh, just some ideas. It wasn't that hard to find my fav peeps anyway, so yeah.

So are we organized on soundcloud? Is there a way to browse a chipmusic.org soundcloud feed? I've recently discovered the magic of the soundcloud feed.

Not that the music section here (or cm feed) are bad, it's just more convenient for people to consume, navigate, filter, post-to SndCld -- maybe. The smart ones will just post their best stuff here, and everything else on soundcloud. In other words, soundcloud good.

did anyone else make a japanese psn account and buy the game that way? That was a pretty simple way.

Yah that would be much more ethical.

Love it. It would be cool if someone made a way to render stuff like this in lsdj, or into lsdsng files. FM modulation, or hard sync would be cool too.

iirc there was a html editing tool that let you draw waves and export a lsdsng file?

Only thing I've used is this app (dont remember it working super well): http://calmdownkidder.com/lsdj/wav.html

I'm dissatisfied with the noise channel in general on c64. I think it's 4 bit or something; it's not as raspy as I like. Anyway a highpass filter helps with hihats, for me.

True, I was just about to say the SID noise is teh shiz.

Curious to know more about the raspy noise that you are talking about, breakphase

Oh I guess I was just talking about the 1-bit noise from nes/atari/etc.. it has a little more grit I think because it has a low bit depth. And the drums from that are a little harder in my experience. I don't even know if I'm right about c64 being 4-bit, it just sounds too smooth for me a lot of times. Just a taste thing though.

$82-$83,$86-$87 = a slight SYNC effect.
$88-$8f =   reset noise
$90-$bf =   not used (do not use: the noise dies)
$c0..$cf =  rare extras(*)
$d0..$ef =  not used (do not use: the noise dies)
$f0..$f7 =  (*) rare extas: resets the internal pseudo random

$f8..$ff =  : resets the internal pseudo random generator,
so the noise waveform play different, on some sids the
selected noise sounds more "metallic" depending on the
value and running SID cycles and other status.

Wow I did not know about these, thanks!

Strange, it's the most versatile noise osc on 8-bit hardware.  I remember when the 8-bit consoles came in it was such a disappointment how limited the Nintendo and Sega ones were to work on in comparisom.

I love everything else about the sid. It's closer to a "real synth" than everything else, but the noise might be a little "too good" for me... "double quotes!"

awesome.. i use this all the time to help me work out melodies for tracker input... anyone recommended a good midi interface for ios?

It's a good app for tapping out ideas.  Yeah iRig is the most notable, think line6 makes one too. I've yet to try a hardware device, but they should work just the same. You can also use wifi pretty easily. You can route it like midiController -> Pc -> DAW -> Wifi -> iThing. CoreMidi should make iPhones visible as a midi device (on a mac). On a non-mac pc i think it's a few more steps.

Oh and of course app-to-app midi is boss.

I'm done with midi on this. I just want to fix a pesky issue w the noise gen before I update. So yeah..

Great minimal chip tones, as usual.
