I remember seeing an Austin Powers PDA thingy for the GBC a while back. It may have had a calculator.

Also, I found a PD homebrew rom of a reverse-polish notation calculator. It takes a bit of effort to remember to enter equations in reverse-polish notation, though.

Seeing as I've been gutting and re-capping broken game gears for the past week, I tried this yesterday and it works flawlessly. Great idea with the game gear d-pad. The rubber buttons internally fit exactly the same and they're the same size as a game boy d-pad. The only modification was boring out the case and making alignment tabs with epoxy and plastic. Works amazingly well!

Awesome. Maybe I'll go look for dead GGs some day. I have extra DMG shells to use. big_smile

Well, I haven't really damaged any of my Gameboys, but I once dropped my GameGear 6 feet. The thing wouldn't turn on afterwards, so I opened it up and noticed that a coil from the power board was knocked clean off. I completely re-wound the coil so I could get enough wire to solder back in. I'm glad I got it working... It's hard to find a GameGear in good shape for a good price around here. (I bought mine from a ValueVillage for $8 a few years ago and found one at a retro game shop for $20 in the worst shape imaginable and a few of the same quality at a lower price at a flea market.)

Oh, and like... 10 years ago, one of my friends dropped his DMG on a playground and the sound was lost completely. (Probably just a knocked out cap though.)

Hey, you should have tried using a GameGear D-Pad. I'd try it as I have access to the right tools, but I don't want to further tear apart my only GameGear...

Okay, I just got my hands on a clear Play-It-Loud DMG:

Maybe it's my cart, maybe it's the super gameboy 2...I don't know but it didn't work for me...btw my old non-USB EMS works !

I think it might be your cart or you have to format it; I just tested my new 64 megabit EMS cart on my SGB with no problems.

What do you mean "paste something from real life"?

Well, I'm new here, so give me a break... OTL

I was going to say something else, but I thought it would be slightly inappropriate.

Yeah, I kinda messed up backlighting my MGB (only took 45 minutes; I guess I was a little forceful). At first, it was perfect; nothing went wrong. After a while (of packing it around with me everywhere), the contacts started to loosen or something and now I have some lighter lines near the centre of my screen, but they go away when I unscrew the Gameboy a bit and adjust the screen unit a bit.

This probably goes for the MGB as well (haven't been inside one for a while), but I'd suggest using a hot air soldering iron when desoldering a DMG LCD ribbon cable; it's a LOT easier. I messed one up by using a cheap soldering iron and had to buy a new DMG.

All units are US/Canada
I've got Gameboys all over the place, but here's what I've found so far:
DMG - Gray
G22484694
G19299578
I can't say much about the DMGs themselves because I may have [accidentally or otherwise] swapped cases. I haven't done any backlight modding on them.

CGB - Red
This one came off; damn. I have another around here somewhere.

MGB - Black, no power indicator
MG112015?31
Serial came off, but I managed to dig up a picture; it's pretty tattered, so I can't recognize one of the numbers. Might be a 5 or 3.
Take a look if you want... not using BB code because it's a rather large image.

I did a backlight mod on this one; fairly easy.

I have a strong feeling that the DMG serials just sequential in order of manufacturing.

For laughs:
Atari Lynx W29C5007349
Atari Lynx 2 Y215101440?
Sega Game Gear - Black 031649809
Sega Genesis - Model 1 31X53287
Super Nintendo - Mini UC20271167[4]
