Erase the section (or entire piece) and start again. Some of my best work comes from when I realize a part is going NOWHERE and starting over.
Totally...I do the same. If you aren't diggin' it, you can't expect others to either right?
Agreed. I actually just cleared a bunch of different half written songs/ideas from my cart because they were going nowhere and they're just roadblocks from what I could be making
For a long time I was trying to emulate other people's style, writing things I thought people wanted to hear or what I thought chip music should sound like (if that makes any kind of sense.) While I was kind of getting there it lead me down the wrong path creatively. At the beginning of this year I had the sudden realization that what I was doing was bullshit and dropped that mindset altogether. Now I just make what I can and it turns out to be the music I want to make. While my songs are not revolutionary it's just my flavor of music and it's much less frustrating. It's almost impossible to not to be influenced or compare yourself to others but not dwelling on it is key. I'm happy with the tracks I've been producing since the release of my EP in April and really feel like what I'm creating now caters more to what I want to do with chip music.
Oh fuck yea! GeoCosmos is siiiick! Is there a link to download the whole album or do I have to do it by individual tracks?
God, I want an Amiga.
Very cool and funny. Now I'm watching more. This is going to kill my afternoon.
You got awesome replies because your pitch was so killer. Take a walk in our shoes for a moment and you'll see why you got burned here.
First and foremost you have nothing to show that you're actually making a game other than your word which means nothing on the internet. Development video or screenshots would have added something to your credibility but you came on here with nothing. You didn't even bother to give a description of the game because "shh... it's a secret." How am I supposed to know the game is good or exists at all? I'm certainly not going create a body of work for a game that is absolute garbage. Since there's nothing to show something doesn't seem right but the nail in the coffin was that you wanted to retain financial and creative rights to the musical properties. So now that I've surrendered over these rights all I'm going on is your word that you MIGHT make mention of who actually created the music. Unless you think we are completely naive no one is going to believe you have the best intentions here. Who is to say that you haven't been commissioned by another game developer to complete songs for a game and you're just going to try and scam some chip musicians out of free work? While this scenario may be unlikely you claim it's non-profit but your portfolio of past work is all for-profit. How am I supposed to know you won't be profiting off of your game via Google Ads or some other form of advertising money? So you make the claim you don't have money now but as soon as the game is up and running, you're now collecting money from Google and pocketing all of it and in turn collecting money for work I've done for you.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for a some kind of monetary payment out of this project. I certainly don't make chip music because I think there's inevitably going to be a paycheck at the end of the day. I would be happy to do something if I thought there would be great promotion out of it. All the examples you've listed about people paying to play is all about promotion besides strippers they take the risk of making more money at a better club. If that is the payoff then great but if you want to collaborate with people bring something to the table. It's pretty easy here to see what people are capable of. Click someone's name and start listening to their songs. Just because you want small 5-60 second song loops doesn't mean it's going to take 5 or 60 seconds to create any of them. In fact I would probably spend a great deal of time on each amounting to quite a large workload when all is said and done. That's quite a large risk to take on a no name game developer who doesn't even have a single screen shot to show and won't even describe the game.
People have been burned on here in the past with similar projects and people continue to plagiarize chip musicians. So don't act surprised or offended when we're a little apprehensive about your shady project.
Cheap Dinosaurs the night before. This weekend jawn is gonna be the nuts.
Man, the prospect of creating 8 minutes worth of original music without ever receiving a dime while you guys pocket all the profits you make on the iTunes store is REALLY enticing. If only I had been born yesterday I would seal the deal on this offer.
Looks like I'll need a ride to Rochester.
Depends on your setup and what you want to do. Currently I just play the song live by triggering parts in and out, soloing and muting channels. I tend not to have enough time to edit things on the fly because I usually have to trigger something else before I could do any coherent editing.
Minimum of 2000. Hope you like backlighting.
There was a time I would say compose in SONG then break it up into LIVE but I've been doing just LIVE mode for awhile. This way I can focus in on a specific part of a song and don't have to stop and rewind to edit things. The downside is I tend to forget what needs to be triggered in what order when going back to older songs to practice but using the bookmark feature (B,B,B on a selected chain) definitely helps. I've never had issues during recording because I rarely make mistakes. Since I write in LIVE mode I literally have practiced over and over how the song is going to play live while writing it. It's also going to save some space on your cart.
Oh god. I need to upgrade.
I ain't afraid of no ghost.
I'm bumping this thread because it's one of the few decent threads in 2012.

The laser lead needs to be a little less frequent. Also your drums aren't very strong either almost none existent. You're going for dubstep so drums are just as important as bass add a nice hard kick in there. I'd drop having a high lead during your bass wobbles and add a sub bass. Generally I like using the WAV channel for sub bass since you can go an octave lower but experiment with your pulse channel probably around a 50% wave duty cycle for some added bass.
Needs more drums beyond a hi-hat. Add a kick and a snare but the bass you added right around 1:48 is pretty solid. I would use that instrument for the whole song. Otherwise I enjoyed the track.
