Enso just added as VJ!!! REJOICE!

LET'S DO THIS

OK

GET READY TO PARTY, MEN!

I have the distinct pleasure and likely-insurmountable challenge of getting to open for cTrix twice in two weeks.

Get ready, peasants.

hell yes

This is going to be a good show.

I'm also playing a small warmup gig in Jersey City at The Lamp Post Bar on Tuesday night. I'm the opening musical act for a comedy night.

I'm going to take the opportunity to use my LSDJ keyboard for the first time and play my slower, more contemplative songs like "Act of Contrition" and "Crumbs of Comfort"

But for THIS show, I'm going to play nothing but party music.

So come prepared.

pretty sure I got invited to play this?

Will you still be in town? That'd be pretty fresh.

I wasn't trying to imply that this was unprofessional, I just thought there would be lots of contradictory feedback and in the end you'd just have to choose to listen to the people whose advice you trust anyway.

I also think that Pulsewave is already a great monthly show in New York, and now that there are shows in williamsburg and the village pretty frequently I think organizing a few bigger events throughout the year might not be such a bad idea - especially at such a big venue in a location that most people don't know.

I really think it's great that you're doing this and getting involved booking shows. I'm glad more people are doing that. It usually means more of us get to play. I was just saying that asking all the people on a forum what they want seems like a good way to invite confusion. But hey, that's just me.

I also think that the key to any good show is a combination of big names and little names. Particularly because we in New York have been spoiled by blip festival, pulsewave, and the hard work that people like 2PP, the Tank, and 8BP have put in to make sure that they ask great artists to come play. But you should also remember that, in a way, the reason some of those artists are so well known is because they've been invited to play Blip, or Pulsewave, and maybe they've been released on 8BP, or 2PP made an awesome video for them. Whatever the case may be, it was the show's organizer or the label's manager, or the video's director that decided who they wanted to book. They trusted their own taste. i think you should trust yours.

Who would YOU like to see play at this venue? Who do you think would do it without killing your budget? Part of the reward of curating something is knowing that your sense of style and taste struck the right chord.

Ok. I have a fever and should probably get back to bed. I'm looking forward to this show, whatever form it finally takes.

They have several rooms? That might provide some interesting options for format. Two stages? A chill-out room for all the teenagers to come off their ritalin highs?

But seriously, Betabot, I would recommend NOT trying to organize a show by asking people on a forum what they want to see. This place is cluttered with opinions.

I'd suggest choosing a very small group of people who actually want to help you, are familiar with New York and the chiptune scene, have booked shows before, and then ask their advice in private. Otherwise you'll run into the problem of everyone thinking they can do everything better than you and things might get discouraging.

Atlantic has gone downhill since Ahmet Ertegun died, huh?

Any way, I'm sure Otis Redding would have loved to be labelmates with I Fight Dragons.

Anthony! Thank you for the nomination. I'm honored!
This sounds like a bizarre and ambitious project: so I'm all for it. But don't try to copy Blip Fest. The organizers of Blip already have that covered better than anybody else could.

Also, this Kickstarter stuff is getting ridiculous. I'm going to start a kickstarter account to make back all the money I've donated to kickstarter accounts.

To quote the replacements:

sometimes I don't
I hate music
it's got too many notes."

Thanks chums. I do appreciate the advice. I'm just a bit overwhelmed with other work and despite Josh's assurance that I'm fine, I must insist that my left ear is, in fact, pretty fucked up. But it's not that big a deal and I'll know more once all the tests are done. In any case, I'm glad you guys are listening to the collection (or at least planning on it.)

If you'll notice I'm not calling it an album because I really don't think of it as one. The only uniting theme apart from my authorship is the fact that its a chronology of stuff I've done that I never thought fit anywhere else - some of it not-quite-successful experiments and some of it things that I'd put on other websites for people to enjoy.

In any case, if you prefer my Game Boy stuff I insist that "The Greased Cartridge" is the best thing I've ever done and may very well be the best thing I ever will do. I don't know what other people think of it, but it is something of a concept record about modern India. I'm tempted to write something explaining it a bit more because I'm sure most people don't want to spend their time looking up the references. But who knows!

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the concern, Akira. I don't actually take any offense. I know your style and it's cool. I appreciate your honesty.

As regards my ears, I'm not just guessing at that diagnosis. I've already had several tests from various doctors in the past few weeks and they agree that what I have is not tinnitus but Hyperacusis, which can sometimes accompany tinnitus but that doesn't seem to be the case in my instance. And it does effect matters of tone because my left eardrum feels like a tattoo needle is being stuck into it when I hear certain frequencies - the pain is often so bad that I can't really hear a particular note. I'm too busy wincing and writhing.

And I know I don't have absolute pitch but I have played guitar since I was 13, picked up a bit of harmonica along the way, and even took voice lessons for a couple of years. So it's not like I randomly picked up a tracker and decided that I'd give music a try. I know my ears and they were far more accurate in the past. I used to have no problem tuning an instrument. the issue here is that I'm using samples from various sources, and while i do try to retune their root note to match a middle c, I've found that I can't fine-tune things as accurately as I once could.

In any case, I have a mountain of work to do and this is really depressing me. I know that in many of the LGPT tracks (the ones that were my experiments to get the hang of the platform,) in the collection there are sample clashes, but in a few of them I honestly don't hear any problems. So when other people do I get very concerned and thoroughly unhappy.
